MEMORY VERSE: “When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, ‘Surely he was the Son of God!’ ” — Matthew 27:54 Content Sentences (10 – 15 summary sentences) Matthew 28 1. Matthew 28:1 – 1 At dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2. Matthew 28:2 – 3 An angel of the Lord, whose appearance was like lightening and his clothes white as snow, came down from heaven, caused a great earthquake then going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it 3. Matthew 28:4 – 4 The guards were so afraid of the angel that they shook and became like dead men. 4. Matthew 28:5 – 6 The angel spoke to the women to not be afraid of me and as I know you seek Jesus, so come see for yourselves for he is not here for Jesus has risen. 5. Matthew 28:7 – 7 the angel continued speaking telling them to go tell the Jesus’ disciples that He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you to Galilee and that is where you will see him. 6. Matthew 28:8 – 9a The women ran to tell the disciple filled with both fear and joy. 7. Matthew 28:9b – 9b Jesus meets the Mary’s saying “Greetings.” which they immediately recognaiz and so clasped his feet and worshiped him. 7. Matthew 28:10 – 10 Jesus spoke to them saying, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” 8. Matthew 28:11 – 15 After the women had left the guards went into the city and reported everything that had happened to the chief priests who in turn bribed the guards to say that Jesus disciples had taken Jesus body. 9. Matthew 28:16 – 17 The disciples went to Galilee following Jesus command and when they saw him, some worship and some doubted. 10 Matthew 28:18 – 20 Jesus came to the disciples and gave what we call the great commission: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Divisions (major divisions of the passage: 2 – 4) Matthew 28:1 – 9a The Mary’s meet the angel who tells them of Christ’s resurrection and tells them to go and tell the disciples. Application: Are you prepared to go and tell of Christ’s resurrection and Gospel message? Matthew 28:9b - 15 Jesus meet’s the Mary’s in truth while the chief priests cover up the truth. Application: Do you meet and worship Jesus at His feet as Lord, or cover up the knowledge you have of Him? Matthew 28:16 - 20 Christ gives the great commission to His disciples. Application: How well are you prepared to take up the great commission commanded by Jesus?

AIM (One principle teaching point from the passage) To cause the audience to see (TCTATS) that Christ died for us individually and for all people of all nations and that He will always be with us to protect, comfort, encourage, and support us in the work set before us in His commission.
