Content (In your own words, summarize passages into sentences. Goal of 12 – 15 sentences) Matthew 6 1. Matthew 6: 1 - 4 Christ warns us not to give publicly (with expectation of reward from the public) but to practice our giving in secret (without fanfare and from the heart); then God will reward the faithful. 2. Matthew 6:5 – 8 Christ warns us not to pray publicly (with expectation of reward from the public) but to practice our praying in secret (without fanfare, not babbling like pagans and from the heart); for God will already knows your needs and will reward the faithful. 3. Matthew 6:9 – 13 Christ gives us a guideline for prayer in what is known as the Lord’s Prayer. 4. Matthew 6:14 – 15 Christ instructs us on forgiving others who sin against us, then God will forgive us; but if we don’t, the God won’t. 5. Matthew 6:16 – 18 Christ teaches us about our attitudes toward fasting, doing so that it will not be in public view but done only to the Father who sees what we do in secret (our hearts too) and will reward us. 6. Matthew 6:19 – 21 Where we store our treasures, there our hearts will be too; not on earth, but in heaven. 7. Matthew 6:22 – 23 Christ illustrates that our eyes are like lamps of our bodies and what we see will bring spiritual light and health to us or spiritual darkness and sickness. 8. Matthew 6:24 Christ states that no one can serve to masters and that we will love one and be devoted or hate and despise the other and that we cannot serve both God and money. 9. Matthew 6:25 – 27 Christ teaches on the topic of worrying about earthy needs and that God the Father will take care of us. 10. Matthew 6:28 – 33 Christ continues His illustration about worrying as the pagans do and not to worry as God knows our needs and so commands us to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first and God will take care of you. 11. Matthew 6:34 – 34 Don’t worry about tomorrow; each day (as in today) has enough trouble of its own.
