BUZZ ON THE STREET Oh, The Places You’ll Go— New Principal for Park View Seven years ago, I embarked on a great journey as I was named the principal of Park View Elementary. It has been one of the most fulfilling and most challenging experiences of my life. I cannot express to you how much I have loved each child at our school. It has been a joy and privilege to watch them grow academically, developmentally, and socially into
wonderful people. I have also created lasting friendships with parents and staff, which I will always treasure. My husband and I are embarking on our next life adventure. He has been accepted to medical school in Iowa. As such, this will be my last year as the principal of Park View Elementary. My last day is tentatively set for June 30.
The Nebo School District School Board will be appointing the next principal, Wednesday, February 12 at their monthly meeting. There are several wonderful candidates who I am confident will do a fantastic job. There will be opportunities for you to meet your new principal in the coming months. I know our he or she will feel as fortunate as I have to by your child‟s principal.
Heart Grams On Sale This Week—Proceeds to Utah’s Komen for the Cure As you may know, about 1 in 8 women will suffer from invasive breast cancer at some point in their life, (Breastcancer.org). At Park View, we want to teach children to be global citizens, aware of the needs of others
both inside and outside of our community. Each year, we sell heart grams for Valentine‟s Day. These are simple valentines delivered with a candy on Feb. 14. They cost $.25 each. All of the proceeds this year will be donated to Utah‟s
chapter of Komen for the Cure, an organization who sponsors Race for the Cure. Parents and students may purchase heart grams during lunch all this week. Check out the website at http:// www.komenutah.org. See Page 2 for more!

Lunch Charges Due to the negative press recently, I thought I would explain the policy we have in Nebo School District for lunch charges.
Win a party for your child’s class! The week of February 10-14, we are doing another Boxtop drive. Show your school you “care” by sending a bouquet of Boxtops! We have benefitted greatly from our Boxtop collections. This money is used to help pay for additional general supplies, Pride Note parties, and assemblies we have here at school. Collection sheets will be sent out along with this newsletter, and additional ones will be made available in the office. You can always count them at home and send them to school in a bag with your child’s teacher’s name. The class with the most Boxtops will win a special class party.
According to Utah State law, lunch charges should not be allowed. However, Nebo allows some lunch charges and leaves it to principal‟s and lunch coordinator‟s discretion to work with families on paying for school lunches. At Park View, we allow up to $10 in charges. We of course would rather not have charges, but we realize parents forget or
send money and students forget to turn it in. Our protocol has been that if students owe lunch money, our lunch coordinator, Mrs. Lerwill will stamp the child‟s hand with a smiley stamp, reminding them and parents that lunch money is owed. Mrs. Lerwill is diligent about making phone calls and sending letters to remind parents of school lunch charges. Be on the look out for stamped hands and notes.
and milk until the balance, or a majority of the balance has been paid. We want students to eat something and not go without, but we do have to pay for the food we serve. If you are having financial difficulties and cannot pay for school lunch, there is assistance and we can help. Please contact Mrs. Lerwill at 465-6012 or me at 4656010, and we will do our best to assist you. Kristie Reynolds, Principal
If school lunch has excessive charges and parents have been contacted, we will serve students a roll
Heart Gram Donation in the Name of Mrs. Ewell Some of you may know that our dear friend, Mrs. Ewell was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer. After surgery, a bi-lateral mastectomy, and 16 weeks of chemotherapy, she is doing remarkably well and gearing up for radiation treatments. I asked her if I could donate the proceeds from our heart grams to the Komen for the Cure Foundation in her name as a tribute to her. Many
of our students have had Mrs. Ewell as their teacher, and I thought it would be a loving gesture to show her we are hoping and praying for her swift recovery. Though cancer runs in her family, Mrs. Ewell is determined to fight it and win! She tells of her grandma who “passed away at age 78 from Leukemia, her 4th type of cancer. She went through surgeries, two rounds of chemotherapy, and radia-
tion. She was brave and strong and determined to handle things well. My grandma said, „I have to deal with it (cancer), but I can choose to deal with it poorly, or deal with it well. I chose to deal with it well.‟” And so has Mrs. Ewell. For more on Mrs. Ewell‟s journey, go to our Facebook page or website. We love you Mrs. Ewell!
