Colorado Gives Day 2011 Giving Report Introduction Colorado Gives Day is an initiative of Community First Foundation to increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Launched in 2010 with remarkable success, the second annual Colorado Gives Day did not disappoint. In fact, the number of donations through the GivingFirst.org website increased by 160% with a 73% increase in the number of participating nonprofits. Total dollars distributed to 928 nonprofits reached $12.8 million, a 46% increase over 2010. Corporate partner FirstBank, seven media partners (see last page) and hundreds of nonprofits joined together to ask Coloradans to “give where you live” on December 6, 2011. The event was extended to noon on December 7, resulting in a total of 36 hours of online giving. FirstBank contributed $500,000 to be used for the FirstBank Incentive Fund ($300,000), third-party processing fees ($140,000) and “High Five” prizes ($60,000). In addition, all third-party processing fees were paid for by FirstBank, Community First Foundation and ten Colorado foundations, so that 100% of every donation benefited the participating nonprofits. New this year was the addition of two types of prizes. Bonus Bucks gave local businesses an opportunity to show their support, and provided 36 donors with an additional $1,000 to add to their randomly selected donations. FirstBank’s new High Five prizes awarded 12 nonprofits $5,000 each for their remarkable achievements in four performance categories: 1. Most dollars raised, 2. Most donors, 3. Largest percent increase in dollars over Colorado Gives Day 2010, and 4. Most dollars raised through GivingFirst Fundraising Pages.

About this Report Data for this report were gathered from activity tracked through GivingFirst.org and a survey of the participating nonprofits. This report illustrates our key findings based on Colorado Gives Day 2011 data as of January 31, 2012.

Impact on Colorado Nonprofits What impact did Colorado Gives Day 2011 have on Colorado nonprofits? Like last year, one of the most important successes of Colorado Gives Day is that the majority of nonprofits surveyed reported receiving donations from new donors. All participating nonprofits were surveyed, with a statistically significant response rate of 65% (620 organizations). Specifically, survey results revealed the following about new donors:

Nonprofits acquired new donors

 93% of responding organizations reported at least one new donor for their

organization.  28% reported 20 or more new donors.  49% of nonprofits on Colorado Gives Day reported as least one lapsed

donor (donors who had not given to a responding organization for two or more years).  12% of nonprofits received $5,000 or more from first-time donors.

99.6% of participating nonprofits received a donation 928 of the 932 nonprofits that participated benefited from Colorado Gives Day 2011 by receiving at least one donation.

How did incentives affect results? In addition to the FirstBank Incentive Fund, Colorado Gives Day 2011 featured two new types of incentives: 36 Bonus Bucks (random prize drawings worth $1,000 each) sponsored by local businesses and 12 FirstBank High Five prizes (earned prizes worth $5,000 each). These prizes added $96,000 worth of additional dollars for 47 nonprofits. Corporate partner FirstBank contributed $60,000 for 12 nonprofits to receive $5,000 each in High Five prizes. Prizes were awarded to organizations with the best performance in the following four categories. Three prizes were awarded in each category, based on three tiers created by annual revenue size.
