Communication Sciences & Disorders B.A.Sc. Transfer Guide: UW-Superior The Bachelors of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) prepares students for admission to professional graduate degree or licensure programs in speech-language pathology, audiology, or education of the hearing impaired. This pre-professional undergraduate program also prepares students to work as clinical aides to communication disorders specialists working in a variety of human service and health care settings.

The program includes the study of phonetics, the anatomy and physiology of the speech and health mechanisms, the normal development of speech and language, and the nature and treatment of disorders of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Lower Division Courses The CSD department does not offer the Lower Division courses each semester. To help you plan, courses are offered: CSD 1100 Spring and Summer CSD 2230 Fall, Spring, and Summer CSD 2400 Fall and Summer The three courses are offered in the summer are to allow students to begin the Junior Band offerings in a timely fashion. NOTE: If you choose to take Lower Division courses in the summer prior to starting at UMD, you will need to do so as a non-degree seeking student. Financial Aid will not be available. Upper Division Courses To move into the Upper Division courses, students will need to have: Lower Division Courses completed Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (including transfer work) NOTE: If students transfer to UMD for the Fall semester of their junior year without completing the Lower Division courses they will not be allowed to start the Upper Division courses until the following Fall. Students must complete the Lower Division courses before beginning the junior year courses. Minnesota School Licensure: Students who wish to obtain Minnesota licensure as a speech-language pathologist for school settings (pre-kindergarten to grade 12) must complete a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from a program accredited by the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association. UMD’s M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders holds this accreditation.
