Davis Magnet School Red Ribbon Week Itinerary Flyer October 21-25, 2013 Theme:
“A Healthy Me is a Happy Me”
Kick Off: Monday, October 21, 2013 On-going activity: Teachers will be giving out stickers when students are seen wearing red or, when they are wearing their wristband during the week (Tues-Fri) On-going activity: Students are encouraged to write a poem (for Kinder and Pre-K they can draw a picture) inspired by our theme. They can drop it off in a basket at the front office until Thursday, October 24th and we will have 3 winners from 1st-6th grade and 3 winners from Pre-K - Kinder. Monday: “RED-y to be Healthy!” (E veryone wear red!) ● ● ● ●
Flag deck: Mrs. Flores announces kick off this week with many fun activities and gives a brief history of Red Ribbon week Activity: 6th Graders to spell out “Be Healthy" on front fence Activity: Students will write something they can do to be healthy on red pieces of paper and create a ‘chain-link’ that can be displayed outside each classroom Support needed: o Volunteer to assist 6th graders with fence message
Tuesday: “Reading keeps my mind healthy and bright!” (Wear neon colored clothing!) ● ●
Activity: Donate one new or gently used book to donate to CHOC Children’s Clinic. Books can be brought to the blacktop at flag deck and collected by volunteers Support needed: o 2-3 volunteers to help load (and possibly take) donated books to CCC
Wednesday: “Eat Healthy!” ● ● ●
Activity: Parents are encouraged to bring a healthy lunch and join their student during their lunchtime on the grass area or the lunch tables Activity: Each student will receive a red apple Support needed: o 2 volunteers to distribute apples to class
Thursday: “Be Active-Team up to Be Healthy!” (Wear your favorite sports team attire) ● ● ●
Activity: Join Mr. S on the track before flag deck for a jog/walk…first 25 students receive a small prize. Parents are encouraged to join in as well Activity: Each class has a beach ball with a healthy message written on it. Students are encouraged to sign the beach ball and display in classroom. Support needed: o Volunteer to assist in handing out prizes on the track.
Friday: “I’m not crazy, I’m healthy!” (Crazy hair day) ● ● ●
Flag deck: Mrs. Flores announces winners of door decorating contest and poetry contest. Winners are encouraged to read their poems at Flag Deck Activity: Popsicle party to door decorating winners- Pre-school, K-3 and 4-6 Support needed: o Volunteer to distribute popsicles
