Dust Devil News

Principal’s Pad Students, Parents, and Community, Well, here we are in the last month of school already! The students and staff are working hard to accomplish all of the things we set out to do this year. Third grade through 5th grade students have completed the Smarter Balance state assessments and students in all grades are wrapping up the final administration of MAP assessments. Thank you to all of the students who worked their hardest to show off their academic skills and thank you to parents for ensuring students were at school on testing days. We appreciate all the support you give us. The end of the year brings many activities at Sage Elementary. We will be hosting a talent show, field day and many other events during the last week of school. Additionally most classrooms have specific, special activities taking place this time of year. Look for information on these to come home with your child. Spring time in Nevada can bring unsettling weather. We ask that you please send your students dressed appropriately to school. It is advised that students do not wear flip flops to school.. Also, please refer to the Sage Student Handbook for policy regarding the dress code. I want to personally wish you a relaxing summer with your children. Remember to keep them reading and practicing skills needed for the coming school year. Thank you again for all of the support and dedication you have shown throughout the school year. I look forward to many more years together at Sage Elementary! As always, if you have any questions or concerns pleasecall our office. We will do our best to help you out.

Mr. Smith

FROM THE

SHELF A Bit About Books

Spring fever and spring cleaning come with the season. Check all those nooks and crannies for the Sage Elementary school books that may have gone astray. Sage does not charge fines, but we do want our books returned. Inventory of the collection is progressing. By the end of the year, easy and picture books will be inventoried. Remember that if students would like to have a “Summer” reading list, just check with Mrs. Nickel. The Elko County Library plans a summer reading program. The theme this year is “Build a Better World”. Registration for the program begins May 22th through June 24th and the kickoff for the program is June 19th. Reading over the summer is good for your health!! The younger students have been reading and listening to the Nevada Young Reader Award books. They voted for their favorite book. Votes across the state were counted and the results are in. Not your Typical Dragon by Dan Bar-el was the winner… Nevada Young Reader's Award is sponsored by the Nevada Library Association and the Nevada Department of Education. The purpose of the Nevada Young Readers' Award is to encourage Nevada students to improve their reading skills by reading from the best of modern children's literature. The winning book in each category is one nominated by Nevada's young readers, read by Nevada's young readers and voted on by Nevada's young readers. Students will also be learning about and reviewing the parts of a book and nonfiction text features. Often library lessons support the common core standards being taught in the classrooms. The Elko County Bookmobile, an extension of the Elko County Library, does visit Sage every other Tuesday. The Bookmobile does stop at Sage during the summer and will be at Sage on June 13th. Any Elko County Library books can also be returned to the Sage Library and Mrs. Nickel will see them returned to town.

Websites for Sage Students If you are interested in listening to stories Sage has purchased a subscription to Tumblebooks. Go to Sage’s website and there is a link on the home page to listen to these wonderful books. Also, on our website you have access to World Book Online, EBSCO, Learning Express Library. Check these out all summer long!!!

Sage Apparel Go to Sage Elementary’s website at www.sage.ecsdnv.net and check out the “Sage Apparel” link. You can design your own Sage t-shirt. We hope you enjoy this link. Sage
