SES INFORMER STETSONVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Message from Mr. Everhard… Turn the Light On This time of year it seems like I'm always turning a light on be it when I get up in the morning or when I get home from work. It is constantly dark out and in order to navigate my way around I have to have a light on. Darkness, according to experts, really doesn't exist. According to them darkness is just the absence of light. Sometimes at school students struggle with a math concept or a writing assignment because they can't picture the answer in their mind…it's like it is dark. Then an educator or parent steps in and helps explain how to solve the problem and it is as if someone just flipped a switch and the light came on. There are numerous opportunities to flip the switch for our children… teachable moments where we can shine a light on how to make a good decision or why lying and stealing are wrong. You and I can be that beacon of light if we are willing to take the time to share our knowledge. All the darkness in the world cannot stamp out the light of a single match stick and that light can be passed on to another and another and another… it is infinite. You passing on your knowledge or values can be infinite too. Values and knowledge can be passed on from one generation to another and another... never underestimate the value of flipping the switch and turning the light on in someone else. To hear a child say with a big smile, "I get it now" is a rewarding experience. Flip the switch.
