Job purpose The Director of School Health is responsible for supervising the school nurses and health room assistants while supporting the full school health program while overseeing healthy mental, physical and emotion health for students. Duties and responsibilities 1. Enforce State and Federal education and health laws including the Nurse Practice Act as it relates to the delivery of health services in the educational setting. 2. Train, schedule, and oversee school nursing clinical practice to ensure they are evidenced based and applied according to the laws, regulations, and rules that govern school nursing practice. 3. Allocate school health staffing based on student needs. 4. Develop, update, and maintain health related policies, protocols, and procedures based on evidence and research, standards of care, and with input from the Medical Advisor and associated committees/boards. 5. Research, investigate, and formulate plans of actions for students with complex health needs. 6. Must be able to perform physical duties in evaluating and medically treating students. 7. Attend selected organization and committee meetings as directed. 8. Collaborate with Special Education department to plan for students who qualify for health services under IDEA or Section 504. 9. Provide professional development and skills training to school health staff (RN’s/HRA’s) who support student health needs. 10. Develop a budget for the purchase of necessary clinical and professional materials. 11. Oversee data collection for medically fragile students with technology dependency, special procedures, and other special needs as indicated. 12. Oversee database for student health records. 13. Create a partnership and act as a liaison with community health providers/organizations/agencies to coordinate and plan for the delivery of health related services provided during the school day (i.e., BACHC Dental Health Program, School Based Health Clinic, mental health services, etc). 14. Orient private duty nurses serving medically fragile students in the district. 15. Communicate with the transportation company as it relates to the special needs of students. 16. Coordinate medical homebound services for students who can not attend school due to medical related needs. 17. compliant with documentation requirements needed for Medicaid reimbursement. 18. Coordinate CPR/AED training for the district to ensure proper emergency care for our students and staff are being delivered (i.e., para-educators and Attendant Care). 19. Ensure compliance with District Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) procedures and annual building MERT Team drills. 20. Coordinate and implement the Blood-borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan and Pandemic Plan for the School District. 21. Collaborate with the School District Medical Advisor to provide and direct emergency nursing services as defined by legislation and School District policy. 22. Supervise the training of non-health care professionals that are designated to provide nursing services. 23. Supervise and evaluate Health Room Assistants annually to assure safe and effective performance is achieved. 24. Supervise and evaluate school nurses in compliance with the District’s evaluation cycle to assure safe and effective performance is achieved. 25. Provide oversight to and manage all health related grant activities. Supervise health grant project personnel. 26. Assume all other duties as assigned.

Assist the Board of Education with the appointment of the District’s medical advisor. RELATIONS TO THE DIRECTOR A. Provide updates to the Director regarding issues related to student health needs, including medically fragile students. B. Keep the Director informed on operations, needs and problems in the building. C. Accept responsibility for the position and duties. D. Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel and operational concerns of the District.

Qualifications Required Qualifications 1. Current Wisconsin State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). 2. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or have documentation that completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within 2 years of employment 3. At least 2 years’ experience in school nursing. 4. Current CPR/AED certification 5. Ability to lift/move 50 pounds 6. Experience leading and developing presentations 7. Demonstrated passion for health and wellness 8. Highly effective communication skills 9. Excellent organizational skills 10. Extensive knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs and Gmail email) and computer hardware 11. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation 12. Ability to operate most standard office equipment 13. Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines 14. Good to excellent spelling, grammar and written communication skills 15. Excellent telephone and oral communication skills 16. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Preferred Qualifications 1. Master’s degree in Nursing 1. Experience working in a public school district setting 2. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills Working conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
