AIS Determination Process September 1, 2016 

For the 2016-17 school year, students at Canton Central School will be identified for Academic Instructional Support (AIS) through the following process: First, all students performing at or below a median cut point score between a level 2/partially proficient and a Level 3/proficient on an ELA and/or Math state assessment, as determined by the Commissioner, as well as all students receiving a final grade below a 70 in their ELA and/or Math class, and students recommended by their ELA or Math teacher from the prior school year, shall be considered for AIS services. Next, a review of multiple measures will be conducted to determine the needs of each student identified through the process above. Measures that may be considered include the following:     

benchmark and lesson-embedded assessments for reading and math in grades K-6 based on teacher designed and selected assessments; unit and lesson assessments for ELA, mathematics, science, social studies and LOTE for grades 7-12; STAR assessments; NYS English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT); results of psychoeducational evaluations based on a variety of assessments and inventories and to determine whether a student shall receive AIS.

Finally, teacher input will be solicited, and taken into consideration in assessing the needs and appropriate services for each student. Options for support include:   

Progress monitoring AIS Lab/Learning Lab Reading instruction (including a strictly Wilson approach)

Student progress will be re-assessed at each five-week progress report or report card period.
