Doe1 Jane Doe Mr. Wolff Integrated Computers Block 3 11 February 2009 Career Research Paper My name is Jane Doe. I am fourteen years old and a freshman at Colfax High School. I moved from Auburn, California five years ago and currently live in Colfax, California. That move changed my life. Instead of attending E.V. Cain and Placer High School, I went to Weimar Hills and am attending school at Colfax High. I have made new friends and have tried new activities that have expanded my life. If I had gone to Placer, I would not be who I am today. I live with my mom Naomi, my dad Craig, and my older brother Carter. My parents are supportive and encouraging in everything I do. Without them I would not be as successful as I am today. My life is very hectic and it is rare that I have free time. I am interested in sports and they consume my life. I love to play volleyball and softball. I play both volleyball and softball for Colfax High School and I play competitive softball during the summer. My hobbies include hanging out with friends, reading, exercising, and I really enjoy music. I wish I was musically talented but I have to leave that to the professionals. My strengths include being trustworthy, compassionate, hardworking, and dedicated. My weakness is being timid and shy around people I do not know. I need to learn to get out of my shell and take risks. My aspirations for the future are to go to a great college and find a job that I love to do, where I get to travel and make a difference in the world. A career in the Recreation, Natural Resources, and Health pathway will offer many opportunities to help others and explore the world.
Doe2 When I took the Pathways to the World of Careers survey it placed me in the “Agriculture” and “Health Careers”. I agree with the results because a career providing medical services, therapy, athletics, and animal care interests me (Pathway). I enjoy helping others feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally. The Personality Survey placed me in the “Investigator” and “Helper” categories. I am in agreement with these results because I am observant and curious about the world around me and I like to help people whenever I can (Career). The Interest Profiler placed me under the “Investigator” category. I concur with this statement because I enjoy observing, learning, and evaluating and I like the challenge of thinking out problems (Choices). The Keirsey Temperament Survey placed me as a Guardian. Being a Guardian suits me well because I can have a lot of fun with my friends, but I am quite serious about my duties and responsibilities and I take pride in being dependable and trustworthy (Keirsey). After investigation, my research was condensed into the jobs of Physical Therapist and Biologist. Going into the field of Physical Therapy would allow me to select and apply treatments to relieve pain and prevent crippling of patients in hospitals or health care facilities (Choices). I would work to keep people safe and well from injury and emphasize the importance of fitness and conditioning (Choices). A factor in my decision was the outlook of the career. The outlook for this career is stable, the employment change from 2006 to 2016 is estimated to be +27.1% (Choices). The earnings for this job were also an aspect in my decision. The estimated average amount for this position is from $57,880 to $82,140 annually. Going into the field of Biology would allow me to research and study the fundamentals of plant and animal life, such as their origin, development, anatomy, and function (Choices). The factors in my decision for the position of a Biologist were the same as a Physical Therapist. The outlook for this career is
Doe3 stable, the employment from 2006 to 2016 is estimated to be +3.7% (Choices). The estimated earnings for the general biological scientist earned an average salary of $72,146 (Choices). Both careers require post high school education. These professions will allow me to have an adequate income while enjoying my life in what I want to do. Both of my jobs, Physical Therapist and Biologist, fell under my selected pathway of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Health. I enjoy working outdoors, helping other people, and I value a healthy body for myself and others (Wolff). Colfax High School offers many courses that I am interested in and will support me in preparation for these future careers. Some of these classes include Leadership, Biology /Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Environmental Science, ROP-Medical Assistant, and ROP-Sports Injury Technician. ROP-Sports Injury Technician would be the best class for my potential career of Physical Therapist. It would prepare me with the basic fundamentals and skills necessary to the field of athletic training. Extra-Curricular classes that are offered at Colfax that interest me are 'S' Club, Student Government/Leadership, Peer Helper, Career Speakers, Internships, and community volunteering. These activities would enrich my education and improve my chance to get into a high-quality college. The research for this project held many revelations on my thoughts for prospective jobs. I have always thought I would fall to the English side of careers. With this project I have come to the realization that I fall more in the scientific and mathematic side of things. This understanding has helped me choose classes, and what I focus on, more carefully. This project and research has allowed me to dig deeper into to the world of careers and appreciate what jobs might be available in my area of interest.
