SOUTH DAKOTA BOARD OF EDUCATION NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING CONTENT STANDARDS
A public hearing will be held at Southeast Tech, Mickelson Center Room 101, 2320 N Career Avenue, Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. Central Standard Time, to consider the adoption and implementation of the following career and technical education content standards. This is the first of four public hearings regarding these standards. Agriculture Food and Natural Resources Career Cluster: The goal of the Agriculture Food and Natural Resources Career Cluster standards is to support students in the production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural commodities and resources. Arts, Audio-Video Technology & Communications Career Cluster: The goal of the Arts, Audio-Video Technology & Communications Career Cluster standards is to support students in designing, producing, and publishing multimedia content including visual arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services. Finance Career Cluster: The goal of the Finance Career Cluster standards is to support students in developing skills in financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and business financial management. Health Science Career Cluster: The goal of the Health Science Career Cluster standards is to support students in planning, managing, and providing therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development. Human Services Career Cluster: The goal of the Human Services Career Cluster standards is to support students in exploring career pathways that relate to family and human needs such as counseling and mental health services, community services, and consumer services. Manufacturing Career Cluster: The goal of the Manufacturing Career Cluster standards is to support students in planning, managing and performing the processing of materials into intermediate or final products and related professional and technical support activities such as production planning and control, and manufacturing/process engineering. Persons interested in presenting public comment and testimony may do so by appearing in person at the hearing, or by submitting written public comment to the Department of Education, ATTN: Erin Larsen, 800 Governors Drive, Pierre, South Dakota, 57501. Written public comment must reach the Department no later than Monday, November 14, 2016 to be considered at the hearing.
