EXTERNAL POWER RECEPTACLE CABLE ASSEMBLIES, ONE-TIME TORQUE CHECK OF
HELICOPTERS AFFECTED:
Serial numbers 54652 through 54679, 54685 through 54697, 54699, 54700, 54702 through 54707, 54717, 54719, 54721, 54727, and 54729. [Serial number 54805 and subsequent will have the intent of this bulletin accomplished prior to delivery.]
COMPLIANCE:
Within 100 flight hours or 90 days, whichever occurs first.
DESCRIPTION: Bell Helicopter has become aware that some 407s may have been manufactured with the improper torque applied to the retaining nuts of the external power receptacle cable assemblies. This Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) provides the instructions to perform a onetime torque check of the retaining hardware of the subject cable assemblies. Instructions for removal, installation, and inspection of the external power receptacle and associated cables will be introduced to a future revision of the BHT-407-MM Maintenance Manual. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Prepare the helicopter for maintenance. 2. Disconnect helicopter battery. 3. Remove landing light panel (BHT-407-IPB, Chapter 53, Figure 53-24A, Item 18 and BHT-407-MM). 4. From the aft side of the external power receptacle (1), slide nipples (3) down on each of the two cable assemblies to gain access to the nuts (2) (Figure 1). 5. Visually inspect the attaching hardware and surrounding structure for any signs of damage. a. If damage is found, or if in doubt, contact Product Support Engineering for guidance prior to completing the remainder of the steps below. b. If no damage is noted continue to step 6. -NOTEIt will be required to note and record any movement of the attachment nuts (Y) for reporting purposes in later steps. 6. To perform the torque check, use an appropriate torque wrench and apply 10 footpounds (13.0 Nm) of torque to the nuts (2) (BHT-ALL-SPM, Chapter 2). 7. Slide nipples (3) up on cable assemblies to cover attaching hardware and nuts (2). 8. Install landing light panel assembly removed in step 3 (BHT-407-MM). 9. Connect helicopter battery. 10.
