St. Ansgar, Iowa September 10, 2012 The St. Ansgar Community School District is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Educational Agency. The Board of Directors of the St. Ansgar Community School District met in special session in the High School Media Center at 6:02 P.M. Present: Directors Char Gordon, Tara Bork, Ed Kleinwort, Gene Hertel, Matt Hanna, and Steve Groth. Superintendent Jody Gray. Board Secretary Lisa Groth. Attorney Pat Rourick and two guests were also present. Absent: Director Bryan Shupe. The meeting was called to order by President Gordon. Kleinwort moved duly 2nd by Bork to approve the agenda. Ayes-Bork, Kleinwort, Hertel, and Gordon. Nays-None. Thomas Hurd of Twin Turbines Energy, LLC gave a presentation to the group on alternative energy systems and the steps involved in the renewable energy design process. The two systems discussed were solar panels and wind turbines. The majority of the time was spent discussing wind turbines. Topics discussed were size, geared or gearless turbines, noise, timelines, feasibility studies, and cost. Director Gordon left at 6:51 P.M. Director Hanna arrived at 6:58 P.M. Director Gordon returned at 7:00 P.M. Kleinwort moved duly 2nd by Hertel that we hold a closed session as provided in section 21.5(1)(c) of the open meetings law to discuss strategy with counsel in matters where litigation is imminent and where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of this school district in that litigation. Ayes-Kleinwort, Hertel, Hanna, Gordon, and Bork. Nays-None. The board entered closed session at 7:02 P.M. Director Groth arrived at 7:03 P.M. Director Hertel left at 7:12 P.M. The board left closed session at 7:16 P.M. Kleinwort moved duly 2nd by Bork to authorize legal counsel to offer settlement with Big Iron, Renew Energy, MCW Green Energy LLC, and St. Ansgar State Bank, using legal costs incurred and the Big Iron contract to set the dollar amount. Ayes-Hanna, Groth, Gordon, Bork, and Kleinwort. Nays-None. The board continued the long range planning process. Topics discussed were an insulation rebate program, some schools charging for JV Football games, the wonderful response of the students and community in looking for the missing child from the Christian School this morning. The board also discussed writing a letter of complaint for the length of travel time to district football games for our players as it is expensive for the district and hurts education.
