Also, students need to bring to class a 3 ring-binder or notebook. In addition pencils, pens (blue and black) and highlighters as well as color pencils and markers.
Classroom Grading Policy: Grading is based on a cumulative point system. All homework, classwork, and quizzes, exams, oral points and class projects are added together and converted to percentages. I do not assign extra credit assignments- no exceptions. 90-100=A, 80-89= B, 70-79=C, 60-69= D, below 59%= F. 1. Students will be graded on their homework, essays, exams, research projects, class assignments, and oral presentations. Grade distribution: Homework 10%, Final 10%, Projects 30%, Exams 30%, Class Assignments 20% 2. Daily oral participation will be an important part of the total. 3. Grades will be assigned by percentage of points achieved. 4. Class average will not be used. 5. If you wish to discuss a discrepancy, there is a one week limit after the progress report, quarter, or semester grade has been issued Grades will be rounded up only on semester grades if the percentage is 59.5, 69.5, 79.5, and 89.5. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
Classroom Homework Policy: Homework is usually assigned on a daily basis and is due at the beginning of the period the following day. Occasionally students finish assignments early, or do not have a formal assignment. The student should then plan on reviewing vocabulary or practicing new verbs at home. So the answer “Do you have Spanish homework?” should always be YES! Late and incomplete homework is not accepted.
All homework assignments are INDIVIDUAL. Students may not work together on these assignments without being in violation of the honor code. If a student is having difficulties with the homework, s/he should come to see the teacher during office hours.
Classroom Attendance/Make-up work Policy: When a student is absent, s/he should call a classmate to get the day’s homework so that s/he can arrive prepared for class the following day. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the teacher to receive material and instruction missed during an absence. This request should be made during office hours, lunch, after school and not during class time. Unexcused absences will result in the loss of points for all homework, tests, quizzes and participation for the day of the absence. These points cannot be made up. The student has ONLY ONE WEEK to make-up missed oral points, missed assignments, tests or quizzes. If a student is absent (excused) the day of a test, quiz, or oral presentation, s/he must make it up the following regular class. Should the student have another obligation on the regular make-up day, s/he must make arrangements with the instructor for an alternate make-up day in advance of the regular make-up time. (i.e before 9:15 Thursday). If the student fails to make-up the work within the time periods detailed above, a zero will be recorded. *Absence the day BEFORE a test. If the student is absent the day before a test due to a school sponsored activity or vacation, s/he is expected to arrive to class on test day prepared to take the test.
District/School Discipline Policy: While on campus, students will follow all school rules, show respect for all adults, fellow students, and both personal and school property. In addition, students will comply with the established guidelines of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District student dress code. A progressive discipline process is followed incorporating the School’s Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Plan. As students continue violating school rules, consequences for student actions become more severe. Classroom suspension and possible removal from school will result when students engage in infractions that are outlined in Education Code related to Progressive Discipline Grounds For Suspension or Expulsion According to Education Code 48900, (BP# 5144).
