RailwayServices In this connection,the NFIR brings to your kind notice that the nature of duties performedby the Railway employeesare akin to those in the armed forces'The NFIR also inuitesyou1.tind attentionthat sinceBritish Rule,the Railwayswas conceivedand operatedas un ur*iliury wing of the Army. Conceding the pleaof NFIR, the formerRailwayMinisterMallikarjunKhargeand also present Railway Minister SureshPrabhuhave sent proposalto the FinanceMinister in the March,2014 andNovember2015respectively to exemptRailway urginguponthe Government employeesfrom the purview of National PensionSystemOPS). Inspiteof proposalsof the Railway Ministers,the Governmenthasnot yet accordedapprovalfor exemptingRailwaysfrom NationalPensionSystem(NPS). There is alrounddissatisfaction and resentmentamong the Railwayemployees against.New PensionSystem. The Railwayemployees arealsoa dissatisfied lot as the 7'r'CPC hasnot donejusticein respectof their pay structureetc. Added to this, non-abolition of NationalPensionSystem angeramongall sectionsof Railwayemployees which compelledus to [NPS) has generated serveStrikeNoticeon 09'nJune2016. NFIR, therefore,requestsyour kind interventionin the matterto seethat the proposalsof the RailwayMinister seekingexemptionof Railwaysfrom NationalPensionSystem(NPS),is approved-.by the Government withoutfurtherlossof time.
