In the 10day summer institute, teachers explore ratios and proportional reasoning, expressions and equations, algebraic functions and tranformational geometry concepts with an emphasis on topics that students often find challenging to master while also learning how to integrate computer and Internet technologies (e.g., GeoGebra, spreadsheet software, and virtual manipulatives) to support teaching and learning. Eligibility This program is open to mathematics educators who teach in grades 6 10 in districts that are part of the East Side Alliance (e.g., Oak Grove, FranklinMcKinley, Alum Rock, Berryessa Union, and Evergreen school districts and the corresponding Eastside Union High School District schools). Teachers in other districts may apply for any available open spaces in the program. Participant Requirements • Attend all 10 days of the FAME 2015 summer institute (July 20 31, 8:30am3:30pm). • Redesign several math lessons or a unit of study during the summer institute that you will then subsequently teach in the Fall quarter. • Participate in 3 of 4 academic year followon sessions. • Support from school principal who is required to complete an online support form available at: http://tinyurl.com/FAME2015principal. • Agree to take the Content Knowledge for Math Teaching survey before and after the summer institute and again at the end of the program. • Allow the FAME team to collect student performance data for program evaluation purposes only (required by the program funders). • Allow the FAME team to collect data about you that will be used to help us determine if the program’s goals have been met, and assess the impact of this math professional development program on teachers and students, as required by our funders. All program evaluation data will be kept anonymous and confidential. Program Application Applications are due by 11:59pm, March 1, 2015. Applications will be accepted online only and must be completed in one online session. You cannot stop in the middle of the application or close your online session and come back to it later. We advise you to download the PDF version of the application from the program Website [http://tinyurl.com/KCIFAME2015] and complete your answers in a word processing document first. Applications for FAME are reviewed in a competitive context. Each applicant is not guaranteed placement.
