Preparation Checklist Schedule your shoot A link to Doodle.com (a scheduling website) will be emailed in the coming weeks. This is where you reserve your timeslot.
Find actors Determine who is acting in your demo before your shooting day, and make sure they are available at your scheduled shoot time. 1–3 actors total. Actors can be yourself, classmates, friends, etc.
Write your script Before you begin writing, make sure you review and undestand the Script Guidelines (backside/page 2).
Submit your script by Monday, January 23 Email scripts to Max Wagenblass at
[email protected] and any other mentors who are connected with the project. Your script will be reviewed by the production team and edited as needed to make the video as effective as possible.
Prepare for your shoot Confirm your shooting time and meeting location with Max. Confirm your actors are on board and know what’s going on. Have your technology ready for use. Have all props/outfits ready for use. Have a copy of the your final script on hand.
Health and Wellness Innovation 2012
Script Guidelines Scripts due Monday, January 23 Your script should: Describe the case for and use of your technology from start to finish (as you would like it portrayed in your demo video). Include scripted narration for the video to be read over the action described above. We will use a professional narrator, so you do not need to worry about finding one. NOTE: because these will be narrated, your script should not contain any dialogue. Follow this general arc: Introduce a scenario in which your technology would be useful (why does the character need your technology?) Describe your innovation as used in the scenario (how does it work?) Describe benefits of technology (how will this improve the user’s well-being?)
Keep in mind while writing: There will not be any sound recording, so avoid writing dialogue. All filming will be done in the Media Lab or immediate exterior, so your script’s setting should be able to work in these locations. You must bring any props written into your scripts (ex: crutch, ace bandage, prescription pill bottle, lab coat, etc.)—the film team will not provide props. Please coordinate with John Moore before your shoot to determine what props are already available in the Media Lab. Your finished demo video will be approximately 1 minute long (90 seconds maximum). Your script should be no more than 2 pages double-spaced (generally, 1 page double-spaced = 1 minute of footage). Your narration should be readable in 60 seconds or less—please test this out prior to submitting scripts.
About your technology: If there are parts of your technology that do not physically work at the time of filming, please be prepared to portray the finished product in some other way (there are a number of ways to emulate a working prototype). Many steps of your application can be recorded live during our session, but having a video screen capture of the application in use will be useful for editing purposes.
