Cooking with Math and Science Do you want to put functional living skills back into your life skills classroom? Then come join me in preparing a recipe from planning a grocery list, comparison shopping, counting and adding money, and sprinkling in some science. Data Collection for Student's in the LifeSkills Curriculum This presentation provides forms and examples of how to collect data with prompting levels for students in the Life Skills curriculum. The recorded data is exported into graphs for parents to view progress or regression on goals/objectives. Also data collection devices for behavior and toileting. Ann Curtis & Teresa Segerstrom
Working with the Active Learner Integrating work and movement activities for the active learner. Participants will see examples of how to set up distinct areas inside and outside the classroom for differentiated instruction to provide heavy work input throughout the learners' day. Presenter will provide visuals of work areas for participants to experience while making recommendations to tailor instruction for a variety of active learners. Teri Jones
Staying Afloat in Life Skills This workshop will train the participants to start out successfully on their first year in the Life Skills Classroom. Higher Level Thinking & Children's Storybooks Following this research based session, the participant will understand how to create templates for students to use, making children's storybooks their own story. This session will interest teachers, instructional assistants & SLP Nancy Perkins
Connecting the Behavior Puzzle Through Functional Communication When working with low verbal and non-verbal students, it is often difficult for educational teams to know where to start in developing functional communication skills and addressing challenging behaviors. This session will help teams plan and implement systematic functional communication instruction while analyzing and addressing problematic behaviors. Leslie Rainey & Amanda Walker
"Cub Cuddies"-Developing Leaders within Special Populations Our "Hot Topic" discussion will help you learn how to build one-to-one friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities offering social mentoring while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. AAC Workshop: Proloquo2Go Participants will learn funding options for AAC. The workshop will demonstrate the flexibility of Proloquo2Go 4.0 to meet the needs of a variety of users by experiencing an opportunity to become knowledgeable of the app by hands on learning, by customizing the app, and to be able to implement the app in a variety of settings. Sticker-Storybook Make & Take Make and Take Sticker-Storybook: Bring your own technology and sticker-storybook! Participants attending this session will receive researched guidance in selecting a sticker-storybook for classroom use. Kylene Beers, “Say Something” strategies will be used for creating comprehension questions that can be answered with the stickers provided in the sticker-storybook. Nancy Perkins
Teaching Functional Life Skills & Routines In this session, we will dive into the world of daily skills and functional routines that our students will need to master in order to facilitate increased independence. We will brainstorm crucial skills needed, share how to address and teach these skills, and discuss the importance of using visual supports to aid in skill independence and mastery. Tiffany Johnstone
Seasonal Jobs/Tasks for Diversified Learners This presentation will spark ideas for throughout the school year for connecting classroom and campus jobs to connect Indicator 13 and 14. Presentation of actual jobs created in a structured manner to produce products to create as gifts or sale to staff and/or students. Assistive Technology for Students This presentation will cover assistive technology devices, software, and apps to meet the needs of individuals with the following challenges: intellectual or literacy, mobility, sensory, vision, hearing, and speech. The goal is to introduce professionals to assistive technology options for function and independence of your students in the classroom and beyond. Leah Gardner
Active Learning for Students with Severely Delayed Development Active Learning, an approach developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen, provides an assessment and curriculum that can be used by these students to advance their skills. This session will provide a brief overview of Active Learning, tools and equipment for utilizing this technique, and resources to learn more about this approach. Kate Hurst

Pancakes Across Curriculum Following this research-based session, participants will be able to present a themed lesson across the four curriculum's: LA, math, science and social studies. Save Your Sanity: Tips for Behavior Managment Many students in LIFE Skills classrooms need more specific intervention strategies than what is available in PBIS. In this session, we will discuss simple strategies that you can use to increase positive behaviors in your LIFE class. What can I do with my students with Low Incidence Disabilities? Participants will learn strategies for working with their students with the highest needs in the developmental/lifeskills classrooms. Visual Supports in the Life Skills Classroom Visual supports are a powerful classroom tool for students who have difficulty understanding and using verbal language. Visual supports include visual schedules, communication systems, and social supports. Structured Teaching: How Can I Set Up My Room to Help Students Be More Independent? This presentation will teach you the basics of incorporating structured teaching (i.e. the "TEACCH" method) into your classroom. Help your students gain independence by structuring their environment and alleviate unknowns. Bring a shoe box or small plastic bin to create tasks during a make and take session! Kelly Bell
STAAR Alternate 2: What you need to know. This session will give teachers an overview of STAAR Alternate 2 testing and how to raise test scores for low incidence students. 1. Building Communication with CORE Vocabulary Our goal is to explain how our Augmentative Communication Team has embraced CORE vocabulary as a strategy to improve the communication skills of students at different learning levels.
