Greater Ketchikan Local Emergency Planning Committee Meeting Minutes Meeting called to order at 1200 Introductions Motion and second to approve meeting agenda. No discussion, passed unanimously. Motion and second to approve the minutes from the July meeting. No discussion. Passed unanimously. Old Business None New Business Ketchikan International Airport Emergency Drill Update. Drill will take place the morning of October 14th. With the increase in passengers (35% this year), Alaska Airlines will begin running larger planes (737 -- 800 series) through Ketchikan. The airport is looking for assistance in planning and executing the drill. Drill will involve a 400 series jet landing on runway 11 in low visibility conditions, hitting the safety area and crashing in the area just NW of the airport (between the runway and water). Details are being worked out. General discussion on the exercise. More details will be sent to the LEPC e-mail distribution list. Round table Ketchikan Fire Department -- putting together a team to go out and help community members develop a higher level of preparedness. Chief Hoage showed the "bucket" which is a 4-person 3-day survival kit. The fire department purchased roughly 90 buckets and is working with Gateway, Rendezvous and Community Connections to prioritize the list of recipients. Currently the community has identified approximately 240 individuals/families who could benefit from this program. SEAPRO -- The Canadian/US Dixon Entrance (CANUSDIX) Exercise will take place in Prince Rupert the week of August 21. Participants include the US and Canadian Coast Guard, State of Alaska, British Columbia, Western Canada Marine Response Corporation and SEAPRO. Ports & Harbors -- 52 days till the end of the season. Public Health -- Will set up a meeting with KFD and the School Superintendent to discuss/plan the upcoming POD tabletop. Will set dates and work on details for the exercise. AMHS -- The Annual Security Exercise will take place on 8/17. USCG Aux -- has completed 50 vessel safety checks this year. Working to publicize this service. Greater Ketchikan Local Emergency Planning Committee Meeting Minutes NTVFD -- quiet. Search and rescue continues to evaluate a ROV program. The SPOT Program going well and KVRS has loaned out approx. 200 this year. Continuing to make improvements to the program. 2 rescues this year through SPOT activation. Airport -- currently working with the state to put in redundant ramp systems on both sides of the airport ferry. Looking to expand the parking lot at the airport. CBP -- has an officer in Arizona in training. Ketchikan Gateway Borough -- discussing security training with the AST and KPD KRBD -- September is national security month and they are looking for help with getting safety messages out to the community. Deb will reach out to individuals to help with their program. Ketchikan School District -- school is starting soon -- make sure your kids have all their immunizations. August 28th is the first day for teachers and students start shortly after. SEAPA (Southeast Alaska Power Agency) – A New Swan Lake Dam Emergency Action Plan (EAP) has been developed due to the recent dam raise project completion. The new EAP is to be distributed to all plan holders in December of 2017. Ketchikan Correctional Center -- 2 new hires coming on soon. Running fire drills with the nice weather. Would like to plan a larger scale drill with the FD and KPD. KPD -- roof project is starting Friday. Antenna is being moved first. Down 3 officers and actively recruiting for new officers. All officers have received narcan training. STVFD -- ordering new engine. Developing a 5 year strategic plan. Currently have 35 volunteers on the rolls. Meeting adjourned at 1247
