Greater Ketchikan Local Emergency Planning Committee Meeting Minutes Agenda Meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm. Motion and second to approve the meeting agenda. No discussion, passed unanimously. Old Business In the absence of minutes from the last meeting, the Chair provided an update on the June meeting. The State of Alaska will have a representative at our September meeting to provide updates on a statewide level. New Business/Round Table  Review of the NWS Weather Ready Ambassador Summer Hazard update. The document has been posted on the LEPC website.  Review of the Paralytic Shellfish Poison levels (which remain high). That notice is also on the LEPC website. Roundtable Updates Public Health has offered to help plan a POD exercise for the spring of 2018. Jobeth, Sue and Bob Boyle will work with Chief Hoage in the planning and execution of the drill. Ketchikan School District – starting a new fiscal year. Ketchikan High School has a new emergency generator that is up and running. It will restore power within 15 seconds of an outage. Fawn Mountain School also has an emergency generator. VPSO – working with Ketchikan Fire Department on their emergency generator grant application. The VPSO office has moved to Station 5 and personnel are working on improving the building. The new VPSO is on board. High levels of bear activity in the Saxman area. Ketchikan Police Department – working on a radio survey. Also starting a roof replacement project at the police office building. Brief discussion on antennas. Ketchikan Correctional Facility – also has an emergency generator. Currently the facility is down 2 people but they have 1 person going through the hiring process. Conducting emergency drills (fire) with evacuation. North Tongass Fire Department – has deployed 30 AED’s. One of which was recently used to successfully restart the heart of a patient. KVRS – working on establishing underwater sonar capabilities and seeking grant opportunities to complete the project. KVRS has a solid concept of what they need and what will work but with the water depth and fast current, finding the right unit is difficult.

Greater Ketchikan Local Emergency Planning Committee Meeting Minutes SEAPRO – just finished a 2 month response in Sitka where a tug had sunk and slid into nearly 200’ of water. The vessel was successfully raised. Currently working to prepare for the CANUSDIX (Canadian/U.S. Dixon Entrance Oil Spill) Exercise. The exercise will take place in Prince Rupert, BC this August and involve the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard, the State of Alaska and the British Columbia government as well as Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) and the Southeast Alaska Petroleum Response Organization (SEAPRO). South Tongass Fire Department – starting a new budget year. Purchasing 3 new thermal imagers to replace aging equipment. Also purchasing a new (E-One) Engine in FY 2018. The new engine (and future equipment) will be 4 WD. The fire department conducted a First Aid/CPR class for the Alaska State Troopers. They are also planning on putting on a 1st responder self-defense class. Meeting adjourned at 1237
