SCHOOL EMERGENCY PLANNING Background It is imperative that each principal be prepared to address an emergency situation, which may require securing the building internally, evacuating of the facility, or the accommodation of those evacuated from a nearby facility. Procedures 1. Each principal must have in place an Emergency Response Plan. This plan must be reviewed and updated on an annual basis, and practice drills held regularly. 2. Principals are expected to use the Occupational Health and Safety Manual (OH&S), Section 4 – Emergency Preparedness​ ​as a basis for developing their school’s plan to ensure that all critical elements are addressed. 3. An Emergency Response Plan template is also available and updated annually to reflect district standards.
