Saint Andrew’s Refugee Services, Cairo Vacancy: Groups and Activities Psychosocial Worker, StARS Psychosocial Services Founded in 1979, St Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) is a refugee service provider in central Cairo that works to enhance the quality of life for refugees and vulnerable migrants through four programs: adult and children’s education, legal, and psychosocial services. Project Description: Psychosocial Services StARS’ Psychosocial Services (PS) assists refugees and other vulnerable migrants who are in need of support with medical, mental health or social needs, such as shelter, security, community support, education, and general well-being and integration in Cairo. StARS PS provides individual psychosocial support to adults and families; individual psychosocial support to unaccompanied children and youth (UCY); medical advocacy; and runs an intensive education and psychosocial program for UCY who are unable to access formal education. Alongside individual support, the Groups and Activities Program (GAP) offer group activities where people can find additional support and access relevant information for their psychosocial wellbeing; activities include peersupport groups, skills-development workshops, information and awareness sessions, and sports activities. Role Under the supervision and support of the GAP Coordinator, the Groups and Activities Psychosocial Worker is responsible for all stages of the implementation of quality group activities in response to needs of StARS clients and refugee communities. The Psychosocial Worker is involved in: identifying needs together with communities and StARS PS Programs; developing relevant psycho-social group and information sessions; facilitating sessions; identifying and providing support to volunteers and external facilitators; managing the logistics of group activities. The Psychosocial Worker develops activities targeting families, adults and children. Responsibilities All duties are carried out under the supervision of the GAP Coordinator. Development and Facilitation of Psychosocial Group Activities ● Work in cooperation with the GAP Coordinator as well as Adults and Families and Unaccompanied Children and Youth psychosocial teams and other St. Andrew’s departments to create activities that creatively respond to the psychosocial needs identified in different refugee groups and communities. ● In conjunction with the GAP Coordinator, help design and facilitate psychosocial activities and psychoeducational groups for adults and families as well as unaccompanied children and youth from different refugee communities, to be conducted both in refugee community centres and at StARS. ● Facilitate: information and awareness sessions, sports activities, peer-support groups, youth groups and psycho-educational groups for unaccompanied children; activities for staff; as well as other activities promoting socialization and psycho-social well-being of refugee populations in Cairo. ● Identify recurring problems or issues affecting the group or the program and discuss them with the GAP Coordinator.

Implementation of Activities and Logistical Support ● Practical and logistical support to group activities, including buying necessary materials and supplies, organizing space, contacting groups’ participants, and other necessary tasks. ● Creating flyers and other materials to inform clients and communities about activities that they can access. ● In coordination with the GAP Coordinator, communicate with communities, StARS programs and partner service providers regarding activities conducted. ● In cooperation with the GAP Coordinator, identify qualified external facilitators and volunteers for relevant activities. ● Work closely with the team’s Youth Assistants to implement activities providing support and training where necessary. ● Support volunteers to fully participate in the facilitation of Groups and Activities. Coordination with Communities ● Maintain communication with refugee community groups for the purpose of implementing psychosocial group activities that are relevant for the communities. ● Follow up on activities- related requests made by communities. Assess community needs or follow-up on previous assessments conducted by StARS. ● Develop and facilitate activities in response to community needs, including support groups, information sessions and other community meetings. Psychosocial Client Support ● Identify group participants in need of further psychosocial support and coordinate with GAP Coordinator and relevant StARS psychosocial programs to define the best response. ● During group sessions provide basic response to individual psychosocial needs identified in group participants, including information and guidance on access to services. Follow up on all necessary actions planned in a timely manner and actively search for solutions to respond to client’s needs. ● During group sessions provide group participants with emotional support, basic counseling and followup on their psychosocial condition if necessary. ● Identify particularly vulnerable clients and highlight them to Adults and Families and Unaccompanied Children and Youth psychosocial programs as necessary. ● Refer clients to appropriate service providers or community support networks. Networking and Advocacy ● In cooperation with the GAP Coordinator, liaise with partner organizations and service providers to improve opportunities and services available to clients. ● Develop a community outreach plan in collaboration with GAP Coordinator. Administrative Activities ● Maintain accurate records on group participation, referrals, and any follow-up activities that may arise. ● Conduct surveys with participants. ● Work and cooperate with the GAP team (Coordinator, Senior, Psychosocial Workers, Trainee and Assistants), as well as other psychosocial programs to monitor and improve our services to refugee clients and to ensure we carry out our aims and goals in an effective manner. ● Participate in general office tasks including responding, as required, to clients awaiting appointments. ● Carry out other duties as assigned. All of the above should be carried out in StARS’ premises and within the refugee community centers with respect and non-discrimination, and in line with the child protection and safeguarding policies at StARS. We are looking to hire someone creative and dedicated who is proactive in creating relevant groups and finding responses to the needs of families, adults and youth.

Qualifications ● Fluency in Arabic is essential. ● Excellent written and spoken English is essential. ● Experience working or volunteering to support refugee communities, in particular with communitybased organizations. ● Experience in the provision of individual and/or group based psychosocial services to vulnerable groups and/or refugees. ● Knowledge of the services available to refugees in Cairo. ● Academic background in social work, psychology, or a related field OR extensive experience in social work. ● Work history demonstrating a commitment to professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work with a multi-cultural team. ● Ability to assess and respond to emergency situations calmly and quickly. ● Experience working with children, youth and teenagers preferred. ● Belief in and commitment to non-discrimination on the basis of gender, race, disability, religious belief, and sexual orientation Working hours: The GAP Psychosocial Worker is expected to be at work for 40 hours per week, between the hours of 9am and 5pm from Sunday to Thursday. Longer hours, evening and weekend work are sometimes necessary. Work will be conducted both in StARS premises and also in refugee communities and centers. Reports to: Psychosocial Groups and Activities Program Coordinator Salary: Starting salary for GAP Psychosocial Worker is 3600 EGP per month, increasing to 3900 EGP per month after a three month probationary period (plus 125 EGP/month medical allowance; 50 EGP/month pension).
