Scripture is filled with God's promises to provide rest when we seek Him. God is an endless source of peace and strength and He created us to need Him! The following Bible verse will inspire you to slow down and find rest, even if for a moment in God's presence. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt 11: 18-30 Garden Meditation Day is May 3. Gardening is good for our soul for the soul of our love one living with dementia. Find a moment with or without your love one to take several deep breaths to increase the oxygen in our minds. Look at the sky, listen to the birds chirp, smell the flowers to quiet the mind and spirit. Flowers are in full bloom as rain showers bring forth beautiful May flowers. The month of May welcomes the warmer weather, invites us to get outside to sit in the shade and enjoy God’s creation and the present moment! Continued on Page 2

One of my favorite songs to share during the month of May is “In the Garden” because it begins with the words “I come to the Garden Alone.” This song invites creative musical responses from my clients, including walking, sitting, listening and hearing. It is important to realize that people living with dementia are doing the best that they can as their brains are changing, especially the ability to process language. According to “In the Garden” Teepa Snow Positive Approach I come to the garden alone to Care, when we approach a person living with dementia While the dew is still on the roses slowly, from the front/low (eye And the voice I hear, falling on my ear level), and a welcoming warm smile, this song invites particiThe Son of God discloses pation, movement, singing, and And He walks with me reminiscing.

The Health Benefits of Olive Oil In ancient times, olive oil was often used as a remedy for all sorts of ailments, and it is an amazingly versatile substance that offers a variety of health benefits for its users. In regions that follow what is known as “the Mediterranean diet,” people tend to live longer, and olive oil, particularly extra virgin olive oil, is a monounsaturated fat that is rich in polyphenols, a vital element of healthy diets that fights diseases related to age such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Making olive oil a part of your regular diet is also a good way to cut down on the risk of stroke, according to many studies. A French study even suggested that those who regularly use olive oil cut their risk of stroke by as much as 41 percent compared to those who do not use it. The monounsaturated fatty acids in extra virgin olive oil can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and the chance of death for people who are already at high cardiovascular risk, particularly if it used to replace the likes of butter and unhealthy oils rather than supplement them. Other suggested benefits of olive oil include a reduction in bad cholesterol and improving acne.

Beating Food and Sugar Cravings It can be tough to stick to weight loss plans, and one of the biggest challenges of dieting is fighting off food cravings. However, there are a few tips you can follow to prevent those desires for sugar and unhealthy foods. Drinking water can be a surprising help, as in many cases, the body is misinterpreting thirst for hunger, and drinking a big glass of water may reduce or remove those cravings entirely. It has long been known that drinking water prior to meal time can help weight loss by reducing the appetite. Getting plenty of sleep can also cut down on cravings. Hormones largely affect the appetite, and they fluctuate over the course of a day, but those fluctuations can be disrupted by lack of sleep, potentially resulting in strong cravings and weak appetite regulation. You may also be able to prevent hunger by increasing the amount of protein in your diet. A recent study of men who were overweight indicated that a 25 percent increase in the intake of protein cut their cravings by as much as 60 percent and halved the amount of desire to eat snacks in the evening.
