ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Improve your writing ability: e.g. Enter a writing competition, publish an ebook.
Improve your maths ability: e.g. complete a full stage of your Basic Facts, use e-ako, Maths Whizz or Study Ladder to show your teacher your commitment.
Be a reporter: Report on an event or issue in writing or digitally and present it.
Improve your technology skills: Identify a need and design and create a solution. e.g. automatic animal feeder.
Improve your science skills: Complete four simple science experiments. Present your findings to your class.
Improve your study skills: Research a passion or interest and present the information to the class.
EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS
Create a piece of art or craft work.
Learn a new skill: e.g. craft or musical instrument or join a dance school during the year.
Improve your confidence and skill in public speaking: e.g. Prepare and present a speech on a topic of your choice and present it to your class or another public event.
Participate in the Choir or Kapa Haka for the year, attending all rehearsals and performances.
Red Beach School HOMELINK CHALLENGES
Year 4
Give to families in need: e.g. Donate toys/clothing that you no longer need, give a significant part of your pocket money to a worthy cause for a month, participate in the 20 hour famine, put together a Christmas gift box for a child, sponsor a child for a year.
Give to your family: e.g. Clean the car, gardening, prepare a cooked meal, including the menu, cooking and presenting photographs of the meal and feedback from your guests.
You must complete a minimum of 8 challenges.
You may do more than 8 challenges if you wish.
You must complete at least one challenge from each section.
Give your time: e.g. Visit an elderly person, take part in a fundraising event sausage sizzle, collect money for an organised event ( e.g. SPCA outside New World), set up a can/ phone collection as part of an organised event.
Give your skills to help others: e.g. offer to help at lunch-time activities, become a Travelwise Agent helping to organise school wide Travelwise initiatives, perform in the choir or a dance group for elderly/ pre-school groups.
Help make our school look great: e.g. Choose an area of the school and improve it.
Discuss your ideas with your teacher before you undertake any challenges.
Care for the younger children: e.g. Organize a series of lunchtime games, craft or activities for junior pupils or teach them a dance or an instrument.
It is up to you to meet with your teacher and show that you have completed each challenge (self check, parent check and some evidence). It is quality not quantity that counts, so take your time to do each challenge with excellence! If you complete the eight Challenges your achievements will be celebrated and you will receive a badge at the end of year Celebration Assembly.
Be involved in the Community: e.g. Belong to a community group and show how you have helped others through this commitment (Cubs, Guides, Keas, Church Groups or Surf Lifesaving)
Teach others: e.g. Teach others something that you have knowledge of and / or are passionate about.
Helping out in the community: e.g. Join a community event i.e tree planting, beach clean up, DoC day, pre-school working bee, helping at a fundraising sausage sizzle
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND THE OUTDOORS
Improve your fitness: Show how you have improved your fitness. e. g. over a period of time increase the length of time or distance you run/ cycle/ walk.
Improve your swimming skills: Swim a total of 400m non-stop or a distance that is a challenging personal target.
Explore the outdoors: With a family member or family friend complete a challenging walk, such as Shakespear Regional Park walks, Wenderholm or Eaves Bush.
Undertake and complete an endurance event: Participate in a triathlon, duathlon, cycle race, ( eg:Weetbix Trythlon.)
Compete in a sport for an entire season.
Complete a nature walk: Walk or run around the Orewa Trail, walk from Red Beach to Orewa round the rocks with a family
