ANNOUNCEMENTS GCASAFV General Membership Meeting General Membership Meetings provide opportunities for member organizations and partner agencies to share information on the happenings of GCASAFV as well as share announcements with members and partners. This General Membership Meeting will be held on December 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Guam Museum Multi-Purpose Room. Join GCASAFV for the last General Membership Meeting of the year! STAR Youth Leadership Summit GCASAFV held their Project STAR Youth Leadership Summit at the Westin Resort Guam on November 16, 2017. The purpose of this Summit was to train students from Guam’s high schools on healthy relationships, help them identify signs of sexual violence, teach them to become active bystanders, as well as give them the knowledge and opportunity to train their classmates. The Summit started with a Community Advocate Training. The students in attendance reviewed Guam’s relevant criminal and civil laws regarding sexual assault and domestic violence with Attorney James Baldwin from Guam Legal Services Corporation – Disability Law Center. Detective Mary Jane Raval and Sgt. Gino Charfauros from the Guam Police Department – Domestic Assault Response Team followed with a session on cyber-bullying and sexting. Student Technical Advisory Group (TAG) members from the Pacific Partners Project (PPP) schools joined GCASAFV staff to present on lessons 1

from the [respect] curriculum adapted from the comprehensive evidence-based curricula developed by the Sex Abuse Treatment Center of the Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Presentations also included lessons from Safe Dates, a dating abuse curriculum on the attitudes and behaviors associated with dating abuse and violence, and Speak.Act.Change, a youth activism program that gives students the tools to protect themselves and their peers from dating violence. The Summit featured David Lee and Ashleigh Klein-Jimenez from the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) who presented on Bystander Intervention. Seventy-five students from fifteen of Guam’s high schools were trained by the end of the Summit. Thank you to the schools’ administrators for allowing your students to attend this summit, the accompanying chaperones, and students for participating and helping to make this event a success! Pacific Partners Project Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Representatives and student leaders who make up the PPP TAG Team convened for a faceto-face TAG meeting held on November 14-16, 2017. This meeting included training as well as site visits to the University of Guam and Guam Community College campuses. Guam’s Alternative Lifestyle Association (GALA, Inc.) intern and PPP student leader Adrian Davis presented on the Intersection of HIV/AIDS and Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence, and PPP evaluator, Dr. Lisa Natividad, reviewed the ARC3 so partner schools can prepare their campus climate surveys. David Lee and Ashleigh Klein-Jimenez with CALCASA provided training to TAG members on Comprehensive Prevention, Gender-Based Approaches for prevention, and Bystander Intervention. CALCASA has been a technical assistance (TA) provider to campuses on the mainland. In addition to providing training to TAG members, CALCASA will continue to provide TA support to the campus partners as part of PPP. We want to extend our appreciation to all GCASAFV PPP 2

Community Advocate Training GCASAFV held their Community Advocate Training (CAT) in partnership with Guam Community College (GCC) on November 3, 2017. This event was held at the GCC Multi-purpose Auditorium. The topics of discussion at this training included Dynamics of Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence and the Intersection of HIV/AIDS/STIs/STDs presented by GCASAFV’s Francesca Gatuz and Adrian Davis of GALA, Inc. Attorney Harold Parker, Executive Director of Guam Legal Service Corporation – Disability Law Center, presented on the Criminal and Civil Laws related to sexual assault and family violence. A panel of representatives from the Guam Police Department - Domestic Assault Response Team, Public Defender Service Corporation, Sanctuary Inc., and Victim Advocates Reaching Out provided an overview of their services and responded to questions from the audience.

GCASAFV at the Sanctuary, Inc. Information Outreach GCASAFV joined Guam’s other organizations and agencies in supporting Sanctuary Inc. for their Sanctuary Month 2017 Information Exhibit on November 11, 2017 at the Guam Premiere Outlets Food Court. The island’s organizations and agencies gathered together to inform those in attendance about the services they have to offer.
