The Kingwood Regional High School Scholars Program/Qualifications/Application Process The KRHS Scholars program was establish by the School Board in 2003 in response to an expressed desire to motivate students to be well rounded, be involved in school and community activities, to do their best on a daily basis and to challenge themselves with rigorous course work in high school, thus maintaining high academic and behavioral standards. Three scholar levels and qualifications are outlined as follows: Gold Scholar Qualifications 1. A member in good standing of the senior class 2. GPA of at least 3.5 3. Previously held Green & White Scholar (Gr 10) and Silver Scholar (Gr 11) status with community service or have documented 10 hours (Gr 10) and 20 hours (Gr 11) previous community service 4. A combined score of at least 1100 (New SAT) on statewide assessment 5. Enrolled in all Honors Level courses where available, and either three AP courses, or in two AP courses and the Jr./Sr. Honors Program and on the Honor Roll each quarter 6. Take the corresponding AP exams 7. No level 2 or 3 Discipline Reports- as outlined in Student Handbook 8. Are active in the community by serving and documenting at least 20 hours of community service 9. Are active in school by participating in at least two extra-curricular activities 10. Are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits (3 out of 4 90 minute blocks each term) 11. Must have attendance record for given year of 93% or better (no more than 8% absence, tardy, early dismissals) Silver Scholar Qualifications 1. A member in good standing of the junior or senior class 2. GPA of at least 3.0 3. Previously held Green & White Scholar (Gr 10 or 11) status with community service or have documented 10 hours (Gr 10 or 11) previous community service 4. A combined score of at least 1000 (New SAT) on statewide assessment 5. Enrolled in at least 2 Honors Level courses and on the Honor Roll each quarter 6. KRHS Scholars Program 2017-2018 Application Deadlines/Guidelines Applications available in guidance beginning Monday May 1, 2017 Thursday June 1, 2017- Semester 1 Application Deadline Monday November 27, 2017- Applications for Semester 2 available in guidance Friday January 12, 2018- Semester 2 Application Deadline (Only students who did not apply for Semester 1 need apply for Semester 2) Friday January 12, 2018- Community Service Verification Deadline for all scholars/ Sem 2 applicants Application Process: 1. Complete the scholar application and the Community Service Proposal Form and submit both to Guidance by the applicable deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. (Students must re-apply for enrollment in the program each school year. Apply only one time per school year) a. Notice sent to all applicants on or about July 15 will indicate scholar status for 2017/18 Q1. 2. Complete your Community Service Project between May 1, 2017 and January 12, 2018 3. Follow-up your Community Service Project by fulfilling requirements for documentation as per the Community Service Verification Form (This form is sent to students with their Q1 notification) 4. Submit documentation of Community Service Project to Guidance by the deadline. Failure to complete and document community service is an automatic cancellation of scholar status. Important Information: Scholar status is re-assessed and published each quarter based on attendance, enrollment in classes, honor roll, GPA, and/or completed and documented community service, accordingly. If your status changes as per one or more of these criteria, it is solely your responsibility to make yourself aware of your scholar status and any change to your scholar status as the school year progresses. (You may or may not receive a notification from guidance when/if your status changes.) Information about your scholar status is available anytime in the guidance office. Rosters are also published quarterly to the attendance office, the LMC, and to study hall teachers. Seniors: Status for graduation is determined at the close of Quarter 3. *Required Community Service Documentation: Upon Completion Of Community Service Hours: All hours MUST be presented on letterhead from the organization that sponsored the activity. The letter must contain the following information: Reminder about Community Service: Scholars should not submit hours of community service that are: work for any family member, work for any for-profit business; community service completed for a class or a club (no double dipping!), court mandated community service, or any paid work.
