Middle Level Education Month! Middle Level Education Month, formerly known as MOYA (Month of the Young Adolescent), is the entire month of March. This will mark our tenth year of joining the nation to celebrate this month with pride. We want to bring focus to the middle school student by the activities we provide, the community service we encourage and the events
we have planned. This is the month we will have our grandparent and parent luncheons. In other words, I am preparing you a month in advance that your presence will be requested by your child asking for you to bring them their favorite food. Also, included in our month will be the Teacher Vs. Student basketball game, the book swap, and our very first field
day. We will also have Quiz Bowl during Bruin Crew, music during lunches, new games at lunch introduced weekly and multiple dress up days. Students generally love this month because we are focusing completely on them. We are also expecting them to get in the community and serve others.

The Kurt Schmoldt Teacher appreciation award goes to Madison Middle School’s Rick Johnson . This annual award is presented to the teacher, coach or counselor who exemplifies the dynamic qualities of an outstanding educator and citizen. It is an award to the person who exemplifies the finest in the profession. I don’t think you could describe Mr. Johnson any better than the criteria for this award. Mr. Johnson has been at Madison for 27 years and is an inspiration to many other teachers. Mr. Johnson teaches 6th grade science and consistently engages his students in the lessons. Any student who has had Mr. Johnson can remember mul-
tiple stories from his classroom. Coach Johnson was an assistant varsity basketball coach for over two decades and oversaw some very successful Bruin teams. All former players have very fond memories of Coach Johnson and share them frequently. Chef Johnson has volunteered to help co-lead a culinary club at Madison Middle School, where he has shared his true passion. Mr. Johnson likes to eat…….. good food and is willing to share his recipes. Mr. Johnson is an inspiration to all of us and we are very proud to say he is one of Madison’s finest. Congratulations Rick!
