FLYING DENTISTS ASSOCIATION

Boyne Mountain National Convention 2015 The Central district is sponsoring this National meeting. This meeting is for ALL Flying Dentists Members, and their families. Why attend the National meeting? You will benefit professionally from the great CE training, participate in the general membership meeting, ladies luncheon, meet new friends, and share in the fun and games. If you are a member and have never been to a National meeting, this is your year to come. Members who have not been to a National meeting in a few years, what better way see old friends and make new one's. We are really looking forward to a big turn out this year. We have over 40 rooms held at the Boyne Mountain resort, we would love to fill those and get more! Boyne Mountain is centrally located, and easily accessed from anywhere in the US.

We have made arrangements for a top notch speaker; bring your whole family and enjoy what our National meeting has to offer. I have heard stories of the National meetings held years ago when the entire membership attended. What a great time that would be, over 200 FDA members meeting together? Let's make it happen this year. Call today and make your resort reservations, then put on your calendar June 26-29 FLYING DENTISTS NATIONAL MEETING. We are looking forward to seeing you in Michigan this summer.

PR E SI D E N T’ S L E TTE R If you live in the North, you are probably experiencing the coldest winter in history. In Buffalo we have had multiple days with temperatures colder than -10 degrees and have not seen a thaw since early December. What this means for me is lots of shoveling of snow off of our roof, and, despite those efforts, leaking ceilings from ice dams. Well, it will melt off eventually and I will patch up the plaster holes and life will go on. The worst part is that I haven't felt like cranking open the hangar door and warming up the plane to go flying.

with the crazy air traffic control in and around New York City.

Fortunately, I had compassion flights scheduled, which got me motivated to do just that. As always, we reap tremendous benefits when we step up to the plate to help the needy and these flights are a perfect example. These flights got me off my butt and into the air and allowed me to get some much needed instrument approaches and practice dealing

This week I will be putting the final touches to our letter of support for the Pilot Bill of Rights 2. This letter will be disseminated to all parties, including members of Congress, that will be instrumental to passing of the bill. As noted in my email to all our members with information on the bill, the results so far show unanimous agreement to support it. In addition to the letter, I am asking that our members seek support from the congressmen and women that we know personally. A

Amazingly, we experienced warmer weather in the Rockies during the FDA Ski trip this year. Snow blessed us upon arrival and allowed for some primo skiing and good times reconnecting with many of our members. Ray and Kathy did a super job of putting this together, and we had close to 100 people attend the meeting. Our pot luck dinner was a huge success, which allowed the kids to be a part of the program and free to run around during the dinner.

good time to do this is when we have them in the chair with the drill in our hands, which provides us the avenue for a one way discussion. Obviously kidding, but in all seriousness we as a group probably have personal contact with a great many members of Congress who might be willing to lend a hand in this fight . Hope to see many of you in St Augustine after my Dominican Mission. Kevin D’Anglelo

Eastern District Fly-In St Augustine, FL May 1-2, 2015 Share 450 years with us . . . St Augustine was founded nearly 450 years ago by one of Spain’s most experienced admirals, Pedro Menendez de Aviles. The landing occurred somewhere in the vicinity of the site of Mission Nombre de Dios located just north of the Castillo de San Marcos. It is the first permanent European settlement and city in the continental United States. This expedition which included four secular priests, first sighted land along the east coast of the peninsula that had come to be known as La Florida on August 28—the feast of the great bishop and doctor of the Catholic Church, Saint Augustine of Hippo. On September 8, 1565 one of those priests greeted

Menendez and his party as they came ashore. Father Lopez recorded “On Saturday the 8th the General landed with many banners spread to the sound of trumpets and salutes of artillery. As I had gone ashore the evening before, I took a Cross and went to meet him singing the hymn “Te Deum Laudamus.” The General followed by all who accompanied him, marched up to the Cross, knelt and kissed it. A large number of Indians watched these proceeding and imitated all they saw done” What began on that feast day in 1565 has continued down to our own day. Please join us as we prepare to celebrate the founding of St. Augustine. Contact Stacy (727-391-1750) direct to book your accommodations for first weekend in May.

FLYING Mackinaw Island 2015 Ned’s National Meeting is turning into a barn burner, a venue that is going to be perfect for everyone. It just gets better and better as we are going to go to one of Brenda and my favorite fly-in destinations of all time. Mackinaw Island

Upper Peninsula with the lower part of the state. As you get closer you see several high speed ferries with huge rooster tails going back and forth from the mainland to the island carrying all of our land lubber friends

From flying over the Northwoods, to the gorgeous scenic Great Lakes, to a magical airport in the middle of this island, to a horse drawn carriage being your taxi into town, to no motorized vehicles at all just the above mentioned carriages, horses, bikes and your two legs, a most unique place that is a sure fire winner.

There are beautiful vistas, wonderful eating establishments, fudge shops galore, something for everyone. We will be going during a perfect time of year, Lake Huron which surrounds the island, modifies the temperature and makes for a refreshing change of pace during the hot summer period of late June/early July.

Here is the skinny: Bright and early Tuesday morning, June 30, we all hop in our planes and make the 44 mile trek to this unique playground. The first thing you see in the distance is the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world separating Michigan’s

from the Indians/French/British/ and the occasional Communist. A beautiful airport in the middle of the Northwood’s setting with a very good runway and FBO facility. Land and listen to the clip clop of your horse drawn carriage as it emerges from the forest. This is just the START of your adventure.

Take a peek at this website to whet your whistle. to this magical oasis.

Make sure to look at the video tours.

The airport sits smack dab in the middle on the highest point of the island near several forts from yesteryear that watched for attackers

FLYING FDA CANADA FISHING TRIP JULY 31-AUG 4, 2015 EAGLE NEST LODGE Fellow Piscators, Join the FDA Angling Team for this Canadian adventure. Eagle Nest Lodge sits on the Winnipeg River, 70 miles north of the US border. We clear customs at 48Y, an airport that straddles the border with US and Canadian Customs on the field, (when they are not checking cars on the adjacent highway). Your Canadian destination is CYAX. Look it up in Foreflite. We will gladly assist anyone with their first border crossing, even the Customs paperwork. Check out Eagle Nest’s website, www.eaglenest.ca.

After a plated breakfast in their dining hall we fish for walleye, smallmouth, and pike. Shore lunch of fresh walleye each day, and evening fishing if you have not had enough. The box below has many details as do the previous 2 FDA newsletters. Visit them at www.flyingdentists.org. This is a family affair as several ladies and kids are also coming…..12 year old Max Bublik will even defend his Big Fish title from 2013. They are still reserving the entire camp of 36 for our exclusive use. Having the camp to ourselves makes it a special FDA event.

FLYING Ski Trip Trip Wrap-Up Who asked for all the snow? The weekend the FDA was at Snowmass they received 22 inches of snow…..slow, steady, about an inch an hour…..but off and on for 2 days. The powder lovers among the group loved it. Some of us slower, older, or just plain more cautious types stayed on the groomed slopes. 102 FDA family members attended this year, our largest group yet, many were returning families. 14 young people age 3-16 are in the picture -- our Kids & Cooks. Again our FDA Saturday Night Picnic/Potluck was a great success. New this year but certainly bound to return somewhere in the future was an Oscar Award Spoof by the “Smothered Sisters”, Kathy Rhoades and Tara Schell. Who knows where these two may show up

again. Thanks to the North Carolina Crew of Steve Sudderth, John Shell and sons Mike, Greg, and Johnnie,

dental implants played to a packed house…..you can tell he does this for a living…..talk to him about your study club at home. Mike Shell CPA and I tag teamed a session on Aviation and DDS tax topics and how to comply with IRS regs. The snow complicated our departures but again the family side of the FDA took over with people giving rides down to Denver or taking extra people in their condos for the last night…..great to see everyone pull together! Lad Brooks, “Is it legal to have 2 kids in one seatbelt in the back seat?”

and Alex Willis for cooking our burgers and dogs and stirring the chili pot. Our CE this year was excellent. Beth Stubbs JD, Tom Dancey’s daughter, reminded us of our Estate Planning Goals and had several members scrambling to re-connect with their attorneys to update POA’s for both legal and medical needs. Alex Willis shared great insight into scaling new heights at our annual Robe Breakfast…..photo below. Alan Brodine’s talk on complications of

The Crestwood Lodge offers us a 25% discount for next year, February 19-23, 2016 if you book before this year’s ski season ends. The info box and CC Authorization form are below. This year over half of the group had pre-booked to take advantage of the discount. Several of us Grandpas who rent 3BR condos and get our entire family to come ski appreciate this….consider doing that with your family next year.
