Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Ni Hao, Nei Ho, Selamat, Konnichiwa, Kamusta, Salam, Malo ni, Assalaam alaikum & greetings. Hooray! Our swimming pool relining can begin now. Last Friday we received wonderful news from both the Bendigo Foundation and the Otago Community Trust. Our funding applications to both agencies were successful and we have been granted the $53,000 necessary to get our swimming pool operational again. An engineer will be down from Christchurch this week to have a final check on the associated pipework adjustments needed. It is so pleasing to know that our students will be getting their swimming coaching sessions this year. Yesterday I received an e-mail from a property manager from the Ministry of Education (MOE) advising me that they are now ready to meet with us, our property consultant from School Support and a property manager from the MOE to implement our five year property agreement (5YPA). The five year property plan takes effect June/July 2016 and runs through to June/July 2021. A requirement of the 5YPA is that the school has a property consultant produce a ten year maintenance plan for our school. The consultant has completed this after receiving reports from electrical companies, painting contractors, roofing contractors and building contractors. We look forward to starting our property developments. Please assist us with our review of the Carisbrook health and physical education consultation which is attached to this newsletter. We are required to consult with our community every two years and we are doing this via an online survey. Your feedback is very valuable to us. Please read through our survey document and complete the survey which are located on our school website; www.carisbrook.school.nz
Resilient Responsible Respectful
110 of our Carisbrook junior students had a great time at the Edgar Centre last Friday as they took part in the Sport Otago Fundamental Movement Skills session. Our students participated in a variety of physical activities and displayed very positive attitudes and behaved to a very high standard. It is always a delight to hear positive feedback from the wider community. An invitation is being posted out to our Pasifika community inviting them to attend a get together next Thursday evening. Look out in your mailbox for the invite. Board of Trustees elections is receiving much publicity through the media this time. Voting closes on Friday at noon so make sure that you get your votes into school. Regards Ben Sincock, Principal

Matariki Celebrations
MATARIKI celebrations this year will be on the 18th of June. Again we will be having lots of crafts, food, story telling and singing. Please save this date, if you are a family of the school or part of the wider community and would like to support in some way such as making fried bread, poi making, flax weaving, carving, etc. Please let Rachelle Moors know as we would love to make this just as special as last year. Whiria te Tangata Weave the people together. Matariki is the Māori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster. The Māori New Year is marked by the rise of this star cluster and the sighting of the next new moon. In 2016, Matariki will start on 6 June. The physical appearance of Matariki in the sky was traditionally used by a tohunga (a priest or expert) as a forecast of the year ahead. Clear and bright stars signalled warm and productive seasons, and hazy or shimmering clusters meant a cold winter was coming and ground for crops was prepared accordingly.
Board of Trustees Voting Papers
Parent Representatives Voting papers must be delivered to the school office by noon Friday 3 June (tomorrow). Your vote will not be counted unless the voting paper is delivered to the Returning Officer in the envelope provided by noon on Friday 3 June. Results will be published in the school newsletter on Thursday 9 June and The Star Community newspaper the following week. If you have not received a voting paper in the mail this will be due to the school not having your correct address details. Please contact the school to amend this information.

Wonderful Writers Club
The Greatest Library The dark brown books had minds of their own. The books flew stunningly across the sky. The little girl called Lucy sat down on her bright blue chair reading about knights fighting in their land at night time. Her blue chair brightened up the whole room like the sun shining in in the sky. The books flew above her, flapping their clean white papers. She heard her echo all alone reading her yellow dark book. The shelves surrounded her. By Amira Soroka
