SHS Weekly Newsletter #16
Board Recognition Month January is School Board Recognition Month. Jessica Adamson, Eric Campbell, Pat Allen, Connie Hansen, and Sue Hekker make up the Sherwood School District’s Board of Directors. These parents and community members volunteer countless hours each month guiding the direction and policies of our District and helping to ensure it is a great place for all kids. If you see a Board Member this month, please take a moment to thank them for their service District Newsletter View current and past issues of the monthly District Newsletter by clicking the link provided here: Monthly District Newsletter Archives. Distributed monthly by the Superintendent’s Office, the newsletter is your “go-to” source for the latest information about what’s happening in Sherwood School District. Bottle Flipping Bottle flipping, the process of flipping a half-full bottle of water end over end, will no longer be allowed on campus at Sherwood High School. The practice has caused too much excess work for our custodial staff who have retrieved many bottles from the upper eaves of our building. Students participating in this activity will be appropriately consequenced beginning January 4, 2107. What To Do If Your Child Will Be Absent How to excuse a full day absence: Please call 503-825-5510 to report absences, preferably in the morning of the day the student is absent. Please note that all absences must be excused within 48 hours of the absence. You may also email the attendance secretary at
[email protected]. Please include a phone number in which you can be reached so we can verify if needed. When returning to school from an absence, and the parent fails to report the absence ahead of time, please send a note with the student. All absences must be excused within 48 hours. The 48 hour window begins at 8:00 am on the day of the student’s absence and ends at 8:00, 48 hours later. Friday’s absences must be excused by Monday morning at 8:00 am. Any absence not excused within that 48 hour window will be considered unexcused. No exceptions. You need to call in by 8:45 am so that you don’t get an automated reminder that your student is not in attendance. The evening calls will stay the same and will notify anyone that has not called in at all, even after the morning notifications.
