SHS Weekly Newsletter #5 Ballot Measure 34--254: 2016 Sherwood Schools Bond Info & FAQ Sherwood School District will have a bond on the ballot for the November elections, Measure #34-254. The following proposed projects are just some that the bond funds would support, if approved: Construction of a new high school on a new site with 2,000 student capacity and 2,400 core capacity (expandable total capacity to 2,400 in a future, second phase); Relocating Laurel Ridge and Sherwood Middle to existing high school campus; Relocating Hopkins to Sherwood Middle campus; Converting The Ridges campus to two elementary schools; and Relocating District programs and community spaces to existing Hopkins site. Lock-Down Drills The first week in October 2016, our District will participate in lock-down drills at all seven school buildings. Sherwood High School’s drill will be held on Wednesday, October 5th starting at 9:40 a.m. During the lock-down, staff and students are secured within their individual classrooms/offices and there is no movement in the building. No one will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until the drill has been completed. Schools will have drills on different days and/or times so Sherwood PD, administrators, and staff have the opportunity to observe and offer feedback. Homecoming The theme this year for Homecoming is “Out of this World”. ● Seniors – Harry Potter ● Juniors – Star Wars ● Sophomores – The Avengers ● Freshmen – Jurassic Park Homecoming Assembly & Community Performance Due to the large number of students we have enrolled, there is not enough room in the gym for parents and relatives to attend the Homecoming Assembly. Please note that parents only of the Homecoming Court will be allowed to attend the Homecoming Assembly on Friday, October 7th.
The assembly will be live streamed. SHS will host a community performance for parents and friends on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:30 pm in the main gym. Please note that all fees from the prior school year must be paid and the student’s Career Credit must be up-to-date in order for students to purchase tickets. Tickets may be purchased before/after school and during both lunches from September 20th - October 6th and before school and during both lunches on October 7th from Debi Bear. Breakfast and Lunch Program Reminder For those families that qualified for free or reduced meals last school year, and have NOT completed and returned a new application form for the CURRENT school year, those meal benefits will expire on October 14th, 2016. PSAT Testing Sherwood High School is offering the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) test on Saturday, October 15th. This is a great opportunity for juniors to practice for upcoming SAT tests. After School Academy High school students are invited to come to the Academic Success Center off the commons from 2:50 to 3:50, Mondays through Thursdays .
