(b) Derive an expression for the loop inductance of a single phase line. Also calculate loop inductance per km if distance between conductors is 1.5 mtr and radius of each conductor 1.2 cm. [4+12] 2. (a) Derive an expression for the capacitance between conductors of a single phase line. Deduce the expression for line to neutral capacitance. Discuss the approximation involved in deriving the above expressions.

(b) A 400 KV, 3-phase single circuit bundled conductor line with two sub-conductors per phase has a flat configuration. The center to center distance between adjacent phases is 4m and distance between sub-conductors of phase is 45 cm. The radius of each sub-conductor is 1.6 cm . Find the capacitance per phase per km. (Given D12 =D23 =D31 =4m). (figure 2b). [8+8]

3. (a) Discuss the effect of load power factor on voltage regulation and efficiency of a transmission line.

4. In a 5 insulator disc string capacitance between each unit and earth is 1/6 of the mutual capacitance. Find the voltage distributions across each insulator in the string as percentage of voltage of the conductor to earth. Find string efficiency. How is this efficiency affected by rain. [16] 5.
