WEEK B - MOST HOLY TRINITY Matthew 28: 16-20
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."
1. EXPLORE IT! Mountain tops hold special meaning in Scripture whether they had sermons, revelations, or even His commandments. This reading challenges us what we believe about God. Jesus had prepared his disciples to take on the mantle of evangelization. His mission is to be taken by all people, to baptize and teach in the name of the Trinity. We are reminded that the central mystery of faith is meant to be lived and shared, that we continue to seek to invite others into our faith of His never ending love.
2. CONNECT IT! What does it mean to you when you make the sign of the cross, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"? What would you say to people who have asked you what does "Trinity" mean? As you have known, "Tri" meaning three, and "Unity" meaning one, Tri+Unity = Trinity. It means there is only one God but there are three persons (God, Jesus (Son), and Holy Spirit). As some scholars would explain, it's just like the sun which has three aspects (light, radiation, and heat) but it's the only sun.
3. REFLECT IT! God has instructed us to go and baptize people in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The purpose is to introduce God to other people and baptize them so they can be clean of Original Sin. It's a sign that we're Christians. At the same time, people would ask us to baptize them only if they see our good deeds done for other people around them. Non-Christians would be likely to ask to be baptized only when they have seen we've been practicing the Ten Commandments or do not judge them harshly. Yet, living a Christian life is not easy. We need to ask for God help to give us the courage to live Christian lives daily.
How do we introduce the most Holy Trinity to other people when we don't even live Christian lives daily?
How do you introduce the Holy Trinity to other people around you?
PERSEVERANCE - continued effort to do or achieve 4. LIVE IT! something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. [ PERSERVERANCE ] In a theological sense, it means continuance in a state of grace to the end, leading to eternal salvation.
You can do the following tasks daily even though they may be challenging to you:
Make the Sign of the Cross every day right after you wake up Make the Sign of the Cross every night before you go to bed Give thanks to God for your breakfast, lunch, and dinner by making the Sign of the Cross reverently Remember to make the Sign of the Cross very often and slowly, daily, because if you make it reverently, it gives great honor to the Trinity. If you don’t make it reverently, you have missed an opportunity to introduce the Trinity to other people. Do something nice for other people around you this week to show God’s love to other people.
5. REMEMBER IT!
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19).
6. PRAY IT! Dear Jesus, we know we have many weaknesses and that we have missed many opportunities in our life to introduce You, the Trinity, to the people around us, near and far. Please give us the courage and the perseverance to live a Christian life daily. When we make the Sign of the Cross, we promise we will make it reverently. Amen.
