OCSRA’s 2015 Winter Development Camp We had 68 athletes take part in this past winters Development Camp. The weather was great, the training was hard and the food had greatly improved over previous years. Memorable events include: day trips to the springs and beach, the talent show, the biathlon and many more. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the camp staff of Jessica Murphy-Burke, Pat Lester, Peter Polyzotis, Helen Savin, Kyle Jeffery, Tamas Buday Sr., Hunter George, Adam Oldershaw and Jeremy Fowlie for all of their efforts in ensuring the athletes receive the highest level of training.
CanoeKayak Canada’s NextGen Ontario Training Group OCSRA is very excited to have Ontario designated as a CanoeKayak Canada NextGen Training Group. Below is the announcement made by CKC on April 29.
NextGen Ontario Training Group launched and athletes named OTTAWA – CanoeKayak Canada has partnered with the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario and CanoeKayak Ontario to roll out a NextGen Training Group in Ontario. This initiative is geared toward supporting the next generation of podium potential athletes with focused coaching and sport science resources. “Ontario is a consistent producer of world class paddlers, including numerous Olympic medalists over the years,” stated Scott Logan, CanoeKayak Canada’s High Performance Director. “Launching this initiative with our Ontario partners is the next step in creating a truly national system. NextGen Ontario will ensure our top up-and-coming Ontario athletes have what they need to develop into International level podium performers.” This is the third NextGen initiative CanoeKayak Canada has announced. The first NextGen Institute program was launched in Quebec last fall. A similar NextGen Atlantic Training Group was created soon after and the same model will be implemented in Ontario. CanoeKayak Canada and its partners are excited about the Government of Canada’s plans, announced in last week’s federal budget, to dedicate up to $20 million to NextGen programs by matching private sector funding beginning in 2016-17. NextGen is closely intertwined with the club system and will support the identified athletes in their daily training environment, as well during specific camps throughout the year. Rob Stott is the National Team coaching lead for NextGen Ontario. He will work closely with Ontario’s Technical Director, Ryan Blair and club coaches to manage training programs for NextGen identified athletes. In addition to the core group of athletes, other Ontario-based athletes may be identified and invited to join the group in the future based on their demonstrated potential. The core group is comprised of athletes who are primarily situated in Ontario but the composition of

Coach Contact List In order to improve the level of communication to coaches we are asking clubs to send Ryan Blair
[email protected] a list of their coaches contact information, including their email addresses. Email is an important tool used to inform coaches of any upcoming events and activities.
High Performance Management Plan & Club Management Plan Over the next few weeks Ryan Blair will be contacting clubs and coaches to complete a review on our High Performance Management Plan (HPMP). The review will cover how well OCSRA has implemented the plan, what impact the plan has made on your club and any changes/additions that need to be made to the plan. Similar to the HPMP, OCSRA will be creating a Club Management Plan (CMP) based off the Club Excellence model http://www.clubexcellence.com/en/home. Again, Ryan Blair will be contacting clubs and coaches to start the process of developing the plan. The plan will review current practices, gaps in the sport delivery and sport managements and tools to address those gaps in the following areas: Program Delivery: Design and implementation of principles tied to the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. Coaching: Providing coaches with the tools to better prepare for, initiate and execute the engagement of athletes, with an emphasis on safety and the designation of responsibilities. People Management: Develop policies and procedures for dealing with employees and volunteers in the areas of recruiting, retaining and recognizing staff and volunteers.
