Learning objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea is being increasingly recognized as an important cause of medical morbidity and mortality. The health consequences of obstructive sleep apnea are numerous. If left untreated, it leads to cardiovascular compilations, cognitive dysfunction, impaired work performance, and decrements in health-related quality of life. Although majority of patients are treated with nasal CPAP but significant number does not accept this treatment. Such patients need surgical intervention. The main aim of this course is that at by the end of three days interactive lectures, live surgery, video presentations and hands on surgical dissections on fresh frozen cadavers, the participants should be able to Take history and do physical examination of the patient with OSA including fiber optic examination of upper air way to assess the level of obstruction. Understand the interpretations of sleep study and to know some of definitions related to breathing disorders during sleep. Understand the concept of drug induced sleep endoscopy and its interpretations. Select a proper surgical procedure for an individual case. Know how to perform various surgical procedures Know how to evaluate the results of the surgery Know the recent advances in the surgical management of OSA.
