It is a true vocation entered into for life, for what God has joined together no one can put asunder. Our Lord Jesus Christ has raised marriage between two baptised people to the dignity of a sacrament. he Church welcomes with joy those who wish to marry in accordance with her teaching. At the same time, the Church is aware of the many pressures of modern life which can endanger their commitment, their relationship and their family life. She is constantly concerned to help those who wish to marry to be prepared as fully as they can be to make this loving and lifelong commitment. For this reason: 1. A couple who wish to marry should speak to their parish priest at least six months before their proposed wedding date, and should not make any other arrangements concerning their wedding until they have spoken to him. 2. The parish priest is responsible for preparing couples for marriage. He will often be assisted in this important work by a deacon, a group of parishioners or members of other organisations. 3. Any marriage involving a Catholic should be celebrated in their parish church. With the permission of their parish priest, the marriage may be celebrated in another parish. A marriage between a Catholic and a non-Catholic may only be celebrated in a non-Catholic church with a dispensation, which will only be granted for a serious reason. 4. If a Catholic wishes to marry a non- Catholic, the Catholic will be reminded of their obligation to preserve their faith, and will be invited to make a sincere promise to do all in their power to have their children baptised and brought up in the Catholic faith.

'( F$1+&((2&' O+%/2*+3 G(2(+*5 A,,(.653 of the Synod of Bishops takes place from 4 - 25 October 2015. Its theme is “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and in the Contemporary World.” Pope Francis has asked us to say this prayer for the Synod: Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division; may all who have been hurt or scandalised find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen.

Altar Servers: A meeting will be called on Father Colin’s return from the Holy Land. Christmas Mass times: Thank you for the replies. The overwhelming majority of those who replied expressed a preference for the earlier time. The Christmas Mass times at OLOL will be Christmas Eve: 6pm and 9.30pm; Christmas Day, 10.00am. St Charles: Christmas Eve 9.30pm. We will review this after Christmas to see how things went. The next major international meeting on Climate Change will happen in December in Paris. Churches in As hby will host monthly vigils of prayer and meetings to explore the issue of climate change from the perspective of Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. Each vigil will last an hour and will be mostly silent; each meeting will last ninety minutes and we will share experiences, knowledge and scripture. The meetings will be led by Sue Richardson of Christian Aid. More details on Poster. There will be no second collection for the Retired Priests’ Fund this month. Second Collection Envelopes: The Retired Priests’ Fund office has told us that the envelopes used so that we can reclaim tax should show the title of the donor as well as the name. It would be prudent to do this on all such envelopes. DVDs of Bishop Patrick’s Ordination are available from Fr Neil Peoples at St Barnabas’ Cathedral until the end of October ([email protected]). Each DVD will cost £10 plus P&P. Catholic Schools’ Carol Concert in support of Menphys De Montfort Hall, Leicester, Friday, 4th December 2015 at 7.15p.m. Tickets for the Concert are priced at £9 and are available from Sarah Dewfield at the Menphys Office (phone 01455 323013). And how worthy it remains of our support and encouragement! Yet I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life. In particular, I would like to call attention to those family members who are the most vulnerable, the young. For many of them, a future filled with countless possibilities beckons, yet so many others seem disoriented and aimless, trapped in a hopeless maze of violence, abuse and despair. Their problems are our problems. We cannot avoid them. We need to face them together, to talk about them and to seek effective solutions rather than getting bogged down in discussions. Pope Francis to the join session of the US Congress, 24 September 2015

Refreshments: Coffee and tea are available in the crypt after the 10am Sunday Mass and the 9.30am Mass on Wednesdays at Ashby, and after the Saturday evening Mass at Measham on the first Saturday of each month. Vacancies in Catholic Schools: Please see ololstcharles.blogspot.co.uk Gift Aid: Thank you to all who have made a Gift Aid Declaration. This greatly increases the value of your giving at no cost to you. If you pay Income Tax and haven’t yet signed one, please ask for a form. If you have signed a declaration and no longer pay Income Tax it is vital that you tell us. There is a form at the back of the Churches for you to let us know if you would like to Gift Aid, or if you need to stop because you no longer pay tax. You can also use the form to ask us for more information. Mass Envelopes are at the back of church or sacristy to fill in the details.
