March 21, 2016 Dear Families, As part of our first grade social studies curriculum, we will be learning about consumers and producers, wants and needs, and how first graders can make a difference in our world. In an effort to explore and practice these concepts and help those in need, our class will be participating in an annual first grade fundraiser called Empty Bowls. In art class, students are creating one-of-a-kind keep sake bowls for this special event. On Thursday, April 21st from 1:00 – 2:00pm, you are invited to come to room 6 and enjoy homemade tomato or chicken and rice soup. In addition to being waited on in our fine dining establishment, you will be serenaded by a talented troupe of singers. We will be accepting monetary donations, which will go to Heifer International. “Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth.” (Heifer International’s website) If you are interested in making a donation, you may bring money or a check written out to “Heifer International” on the day of the event. We will be looking for food donations before the event as well. A second letter will go home soon for people interested in donating supplies for our soups and breads.
