COMMUNITY CONTEXT

The Students are in community school comes from nearby village and most of them from the family who has very weak financial background. The aim of the program is to provide strong english language and speaking environment for children, youth and develop their english communicative skills and writing. Vaishnabi Secondary School is a community school that offers schooling from class nursery to ten. The school management and partially government have been providing financial support to pay for the teachers and other infrastructures which will be needed for the school. This school has 120 students with 20 staffs. Vaishnabi Community School is located in Kirtipur Kirtipur is one of the oldest Human settlements in the Kathmandu Valley. This tiny town is recorded as an ancient capital of Nepal. Kirtipur means “a famed town” in Nepali language is also known as “kipu” and “kyapu”. The location of this small town is different from the other main towns of the valley in the same that occupies the top of a steep rocky hill. This city of glory is

inhabited and also dominated by Newars which are the earliest settlers in the Valley with their own language and cultural norms and values. Originally a Newari foundation, it is no doubt that Kirtipur is still a centre of Newari culture. Volunteers can observe the local festival of the people. They do have their own language Newari Language, it is also known as Nepal Bhasha. It th th was Nepal’s administrative language from 14 to the late 18 century. They always use Newari language when they talk to each other. However now a day’s people of different casts and religion stay in this place. So it consists of many Temples, Gumbas and Churches as well. They always use their local language when they talk to each other. The place is somehow can see as crowded of students because of the university, called Tribhuwan University. Volunteers can observe the life of Newari people and culture and in leisure time they can walk and see very historical place Bagh Bharab, Chovar Gorge and Taudaha Lake. VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS

VOLUNTEER’S TASKS

Volunteers must be 20 years old minimum. Volunteers must show eagerness, the ability to maintain motivation and reliability. Related to this, volunteers need to show creativity and initiative when planning and taking part. Most importantly, volunteers need to have confidence with knowledge of the related subject in their teaching and management skills to ensure an effective support. You will be teaching English course book as prescribed by the school co-coordinating with local English teacher. Volunteers will organize various learning extracurricular activities through students for example, health and civic education, games, drawing, painting, sports activities, quiz contest, awareness raising activities in the community through students, debate, music class etc. Other Activities

Maximum 2 volunteers can work at this project. Volunteers need to check with the hosting organization in advance to see if the project is still available. Volunteers will stay With Lok’s family which is located 5 minutes walking distance from the school. This family has 5 members (Lok, his wife (Projina), a son, father and mother). Host family will provide accommodation and food for the volunteers and they needs to share rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Volunteers will have their lunch at 9:00 to 9:30 and dinner at 7:30 to 8:00 pm. Food is local style, cooked by a Nepali family. The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup vegetables and pickle but once a week host family will provide you meat in your lunch or dinner. For vegetarians the choice is usually limited to vegetables, lentil soup and pickle.

The Students are in community schools have minimum English Knowledge. The aim of the program is to provide strong english language and speaking environment for children, youth and develop their english communicative skills and writing. Bashundhara Community English School is a Community school that offers schooling from class nursery to five. The community has been providing financial support to pay for the teachers and other infrastructures which will be needed for the school and partially supported by the government .This school has 77 students with 7 staffs including principal. Bashundhara Community English School is located in Bhartpur Sub Metropolian Chitwan, and 9.2 km far from the main city of Chitwan called Narayangarh. The community is beautiful with different castes. Before, This place was dominated by mangolian people called Lama which were the earliest settlers in this village with their own language and cultural norms and values. However, now a day’s people of different castes and religion stay in this place. So it consists of many temples, Gumbas and Churches as well. People in the village so welcoming and kind. Only, young people speak and understand english language. Volunteers must be 20 years old minimum. Volunteers must show eagerness, the ability to maintain motivation and reliability. Related to this, volunteers need to show creativity and initiative when planning and taking part. AIMS OF THE PROJECT

The aim of the program is to provide food, shelter and education for orphanage children.

PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES

COMMUNITY CONTEXT

It is looking after 31 orphans that have arrived from different parts of Nepal. The orphanage is run very systematically by Eleven highly committed members in the management committee. It also has Four other staffs to support different activities the orphanage undertakes. The orphanage works by the motto - if orphaned children are kept in a homely atmosphere and given love and affection then they will become good citizen of the nation. The orphanage is dedicated to helping these children achieve a bright future for them. HORAC is located in a Nepali community in Kirtipur. The habitant of this area all migrated from the different part of the country so there is no specific culture and festival. All the people here speak national language “Nepali” when they talk to other people. But when they talk to their own people they use their own language only in the room. Candidate can observe the busy life of the city area’s people at the same time the culture of Community.

Volunteers must be 18 years old minimum. Volunteers must show eagerness, the ability to maintain motivation and reliability. Related to this, volunteers need to show creativity and initiative when planning and taking part. HOPAD Child and Women Promotion Society play an instrumental role as an agent of social change to empower Nepalese women and children. By providing a quality education, good health, a loving family environment, and sustainable training programs, HOPAD increases the capacity to succeed among Nepalese women and children and ensures a prosperous future. . HOPAD (Helpless, Orphan, Poor, Affected, and Dalits) Child & Women Promotion Society is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the cause of aiding helpless children and women. HOPAD was established in 2005 by a consortium of human rights activists, social workers, and lawyers whose greatest passion is ensuring care for those in need. HOPAD rises to ensure that the children and women in need receive the care, opportunities, and training to succeed. HOPAD is also devoted to making the government aware of the conditions in which the needy are living and making adjustments to ensure these conditions are changed.NOTEICYE-Nepal collabortes with HOPAD to mobilize volunteer in ORPHANAGE only .Currenlty HOPAD does not have any activities related to women promition program in Kathmandu. HOPAD Child and Women Promotion Society is located in a Nepali community in Lalitpur District. The aim of the program is to provide food, shelter and education for orphanage and disadvantages children.

PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES

Light for Nepal is established in May 2005 in Kathmandu District. With a strong desire of offering free education, food and shelter for orphan and disadvantage children. Some their parents have died due to the disease and some their parents have unstable incomes, frequently move between different jobs and often move house amongst other reasons. There are currently 17 children from 3 years to 15 years.

COMMUNITY CONTEXT

Light for Nepal is located in a Nepali community in Kathmandu District and mainly local people of Kathmandu Valley . Drive by cab takes 45 minutes from the Airport.

Rampur Multi-purpose Trees Species Nurseryplays an instrumental role as an agent of healthy environment. At the same time, the project has also provided training to local farmers and people for protecting environment. Besides this we have been distributing trees plant to the local community . The nursery is situated in Chitwan, southern part of Nepal, which is 120 km far from the capital city, Katmandu; and 30 km far from RCNP. The nursery consists with varieties of plants likemulti-purpose tree species China Berry, Silk-Cotton, Ipil-ipil, Shisham, Bamboo, etc., Fruitslike Litchi, Mango, Jackfruit, etc., and Flowerslike Bougainvillea, Croton, Hibiscus, Gardenia, etc. The purpose of nursery is to

produceseedling and distributes them to local farmersand partners, and plants them in the conservation areas. At the same time, the project has also Provided training local farmers and partners. The Nursery has a local coordinator who manages the plants and other necessary materials in the Nursery. COMMUNITY CONTEXT

It is 100bedded well equipped hospital in the content of Nepal but for foreign candidate it won’t be well organized and well managed because of system varies in western country and developing country.

VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS

VOLUNTEER’S TASKS

Volunteers must be 20 years old minimum and they should have medical background (Doctor, nurses, physiotherapist) or the currently graduates from the medical related course. Candidate should be open-minded and should not be judgmental. He/she should be enthusiastic to learn in New different Environment. The tasks of the volunteer depend on their qualification and the education background. For the doctors: The management team of Sahid will provide them opportunity to work under the supervision of them. So, They can follow the doctors round to observe the treatment type and procedure. For the Nurses: the chief of nurse is responsible to manage their work division. Mainly focusing on patient care, taking vital signs, giving medication, providing health care counseling, taking care of the patient in the ER, ICU and operation ward. For the physiotherapist: The physiotherapy department is responsible to provide them job .Basically manual skills are performed for the patient either of In patients or for OPD patients. So, the hospital management is guiding in every step of volunteer to avoid confusion on work because the treatment procedure is very different in Nepal comparing to western country.

You will be sharing rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Lunch & dinner are provided at the hostel. Food is local style mainly but there the hostel cook may serve different type of Nepalese and Indian food .The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables but once a week hostel person will provide you meat in your lunch or dinner. For vegetarians the choice is usually limited to rice, vegetables, lentil soup and pickle. (Note: If someone wants to go this project for volunteering.
