1'hedisturbingreports receivedby NFIR from differentquartersrevealthat the Railwavsis floating global tendersworth Rs. 2500 crore for procurement-cum-maintenance o1'l5 setsof ElectricalMultiple Unit IEMU) Train Setsi.e. 315 coachesfrom privateplayer in a periodof 4-5 years. Wliile expressingdisappointmentover the decision,the Federationcontendsthat the 'fechnical cxisting Rr-rnningand Staff of Railways are fully capable to acquire new tecl.urological skills fbr running and maintainingthe new trains proposedto be procured. Allowing private players for maintenanceof Loco Free Train Sets is amounting to privatisationof activities in contraventionto the assurancegiven by the Hon'ble Prime l\linisterthatRailwaysshallnot be privatised.
