1'hedisturbingreports receivedby NFIR from differentquartersrevealthat the Railwavsis floating global tendersworth Rs. 2500 crore for procurement-cum-maintenance o1'l5 setsof ElectricalMultiple Unit IEMU) Train Setsi.e. 315 coachesfrom privateplayer in a periodof 4-5 years. Wliile expressingdisappointmentover the decision,the Federationcontendsthat the 'fechnical cxisting Rr-rnningand Staff of Railways are fully capable to acquire new tecl.urological skills fbr running and maintainingthe new trains proposedto be procured. Allowing private players for maintenanceof Loco Free Train Sets is amounting to privatisationof activities in contraventionto the assurancegiven by the Hon'ble Prime l\linisterthatRailwaysshallnot be privatised. The Iredcrationopposesthis move of the Railway Ministry as the maintenance of all types ol'FIMU/DMU/MEMU are presentlybeing done by the existing Railway employees elficiently.NIrIR furtherproposesthat the new Loco FreeTrain Setsshouldbe allowedto be maintainedby the Sr-rpervisors and other technicalstaff of Indian Railwayswho may be got trainedin the ncw technologybeingprocuredby the IR.
