None Principal’s Report TDAP – Formal process of videotaping and observing teachers with an opportunity for post observation with guided questions. It offers teachers an opportunity to see themselves in action and think about: what they might do over again as well as take a good look at what the kids are learning, not just how the teacher is teaching. It’s a process of learning within your professional group and is an ongoing process. Cultural and linguistic proficiency is also being addressed by looking at the language we all speak and how it ties into district’s equity promise. Report of Officers: • Beginning balance: $10,516.24 Treasurer’s Report • Ending balance: $9,874.39 Other Business On behalf of the Artist in Residence fund, Jodi Vanderbilt and Amy Wagner-Wieland made a request to spend next year’s budget of $2,000.00 this year, in addition to the $2,000.00 that is budgeted for this year. This year’s planned project is a big installation involving EVERY student at Sunnyside and will cost $6600.00. A local artist will come in for one week to teach each student about painting before they all get to contribute to a new mural that will be placed in the school. Motion to approve by Jeff and Dana. There was talk about concerns regarding the other monies needed. Jodi and Amy are starting a Kickstarter campaign to raise the rest. The motion passed with all in favor. Motion Motion to approve treasury request for Artist in Residence funding. Approved Report of PLEC: The kindergarten center appreciated the contribution we made toward playground Committees equipment and said it is installed and being well loved. FUNDRAISING: The fall fundraiser is almost over. Awards will be presented to classrooms and students later this week. We made just over $7,100. COMMUNICATIONS: No updates. TECH COMMITTEE: Swivl is being tested in 2nd grade classrooms and is going well. Thanks to the PTA for their support in getting Swivl. HARVEST DANCE: Deposited $1800.02. $775.00 in expenses. Total profit: $1025.02. This was the first time we’ve ever held this event in the fall and it was considered a success. The event didn’t meet its targeted budget however, it was planned to include the silent auction which was later moved to the January event.
SPIRIT WEAR: Based on feedback, new items were ordered; water bottles, winter hats, sweatpants and sweatshirts. Shipment should arrive in time for the holiday shop. HOLIDAY SHOP: Students can shop for family and friends December 18th and 19th from 8:158:45am. Items will range from $0.25 to $5 per item. Volunteers are needed each day from 8:00-9:00am. Talk to Shauna or Phaedra if interested. SPAGHETTING DINNER AND AUCTION: The committee is still working on this event, which is planned for January 30th. They are already collecting items for the silent auction and welcome any help. Volunteers will be needed for the night of the event.

Jeff Wieland requested $50 for PLEC’s angel fund. Motion to approve by Amy and Dana. The grant passed with all in favor. Motion to approve grant request for angel fund. Approved Brainstorm kindergarten center needs. This is an ongoing action item as PLEC forms and changes. Sandra Westerman presented the same information about school start times that she also presented at the November board meeting. Pam Baglien’s Presentation A Tour of Sunnyside Mrs. Baglien presented on what happens curriculum and specialist-wise from the K centers using Nexus tablets for literacy centers, all the way to 3rd-5th graders using laptops and Chromebooks. She talked about learning about number sense and how kids learn math, while also helping teachers understand how kids learn and develop number sense. It’s a two-way street. Chrome books are available in grades 4-5. iPads are available to grades 13. IXL (an online learning tool similar to Khan Academy) was rolled out to 4th grade this year. They’re also using Google drive to return assignments. 5th graders are working on their biographies for the upcoming Wax Museum and will soon go to BizTown to run a fictitious town for the day. One of the goals in teaching is to tie into STEM and healthy initiatives.

Highlights: Our science specialist is gearing the kids toward the February science fair. In Technology, they are working on 2014-2015 Star of the North picture book nominees for 1st and 2nd. The other grades are learning more about the “hour of code event” encouraged by Khan Academy. This “event” encourages kids of all ages to learn about coding and webpage design. In art, Mrs. Vanderbilt just added new art to Artsonia. Parents are highly encouraged to logon and share their children’s artist talents with friends and family. Finally, before and after school opportunities abound from mentoring to chess and glee club. 1/12/2015
