The Art in City Life Commission seeks proposals for temporary creative installations that enhance the public realm as part of PVDFest, to be held on June 1-4, 2017. PVDFest is a four-day, multi-cultural art space where live music, dance, food, and visual arts explode in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. Dream up a provocative temporary installation that will become part of downtown’s biggest outdoor party. PVDFest, produced by FirstWorks and the City of Providence, promises to be a jaw-dropping celebration in the Creative Capital of Providence, Rhode Island. Discover the city center as it comes to life with arts, culture, music, food, and spectacle. Experience an extravaganza of performances throughout the city and join the parade converging on Kennedy Plaza during this signature showcase event. Project Location Project Sites will be assigned within the festival footprint (see map above). Applicants may request a specific site; however, the festival subcommittee of the Art in City Life Commission will be responsible for final site locations.
CREATE@PVDFEST CALL FOR TEMPORARY PUBLIC PROJECTS CALL FOR PROJECTS Propose a temporary project aimed at enhancing pedestrian-level interaction along the Washington Street Cultural Corridor, between Empire Street and the Providence River. Your project should make the streetscape more vibrant, engaging, surprising, or beautiful.
ELIGIBILITY AND EXPECTATIONS:
Preference will be given to artists, practitioners, or scholars who live or have a business/studio address in Providence, RI Primary project contact must be at least 18 years old Applicant retains copyright and receives credit for their project; the City of Providence and FirstWorks reserve the right to reproduce images of their project for non-commercial purposes
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purchasing materials, design and fabrication Installation and removal of the artwork or project upon completion of the display period in accordance with contract Restoring the site to its original condition
BUDGET:
Applicants must submit a budget breakdown for projects ranging from $150-1000

Moving Image such as short film, video, animation
Functional such as seating, landscaping, bicycle parking, lighting
