ROMANS – PART 56 Romans 8:28 Mark Kring, Senior Pastor January 20 & 21, 2018
1. God knows our greatest good is to know Him to the fullest degree possible. 2. “And we know…”—Paul was not expressing personal opinion; he was setting forth reality based on the truth of God’s Word. 3. God Himself brings about the good. 4. Paul did not say that God prevents His children from experiencing things that can harm them. He said that the Lord takes all that He allows to happen to His children, even the worst, and turns those things ultimately into blessings. 5. Instead of turning down the heat, God turns up the grace, so that we can embrace any situation with joy. 6. God uses suffering to bring us closer to the image of Jesus (1 Peter 5:10; Job 23:10). 7. God uses the evil of sin as a means of bringing good to His children. When we fall into sin, our spiritual weakness becomes evident and we are driven to seek God’s restoration. 8. The supreme reality of God turning “all things” to good is seen in the death of Jesus. God took the ultimate evil Satan could deliver and turned it into the greatest conceivable blessing He could offer. 9. God often delays the ultimate good He promises. In sovereign grace, He uses the pain, which by human reckoning is slow and arduous (2 Corinthians 4:16-17).
10. In God’s sight, there are only two categories of humans, those who love Him and those who hate Him (Matthew 12:30). 11. We need to acknowledge that all things will not work together for good for everybody. 12. How you respond to God’s activity in your life directly affects your earthly future and your eternal future (Romans 2:5). 13. God’s calling is the “calling” to salvation (Romans 11:29; 1 Corinthians 1:9; Ephesians 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:12; 2 Timothy 1:9; 1 Peter 2:9).

QUOTES
“A sick-bed often teaches more than a sermon.” ~Thomas Watson “It is not that things in themselves work together to produce good. It is God’s providential power and will, not a natural synergism of circumstances and events in our lives, that causes them to work together for good.” ~Dr. John MacArthur “Can they ever do enough for Him, who so marvelously overrules all events for them?” ~Charles Simeon, 1833
