BAX is Seeking SENIOR COUNSELORS for our 2017 President’s Week & Spring Break Arts Programs (Candidates must be at least High School Junior/Senior or College-aged Students) The BAX SCHOOL BREAKS ARTS PROGRAM fosters creativity, encourages exploration and provides a positive, nurturing environment. Children get to experience the exhilaration of being an artist whether at age 5 or 11. President’s Week & Spring Break Arts Program Overview President’s Week Arts Program: Monday, February 20 – Friday, February 24, 2017 Spring Break Arts Program: Monday, April 10 – Friday, April 14, 2017 Program Hours: 8:30am-3:00pm Families register by day or for the full week; there are two groups – Nano Group (children in Kindergarten to 2nd grade) and Mega/Giga Group (children in 2nd grade to 5th grade). Each group has up to 30 children enrolled and is staffed with one Group Leader, one Senior Counselor, and two Junior Counselors. Each day the groups explore a theme through various performing arts and visual arts activities. There is one morning performing arts workshop, facilitated by a Guest Arts Specialist, as well as one Group Leader Led Activity and creative play time. During the afternoon, there is one visual arts workshop facilitated by a second specialist. Each day culminates with an informal sharing between the two groups. Performing arts specialties may include: tumbling, theater, circus, and dance. Exploratory themes may include: Gone Green, Artic Adventure, Down the Rabbit Hole, World Wanderer, Space Odyssey, iSpy, etc. The School Breaks Arts Program is overseen by the School Breaks Director and Education Department staff. No special talent or experience is required of students – students come in with all levels of skill and interest in any given discipline. Extended Day Program (Program Hours 3-6pm) is available for families looking for a later pick-up time (half time at 4:45pm and full time at 5:45pm). A staff made up of a one Group Leader, one Senior Counselor and one Junior Counselor runs this program. SENIOR COUNSELOR POSITION DESCRIPTION: Senior Counselors work directly with the Group Leader to establish a strong group dynamic and daily activity schedule, including planning and facilitating 2-3 Counselor Led Activities each week. Senior Counselors provide mentorship to Junior Counselors and program participants by leading by example and engaging in all activities. Responsibilities Include: Assisting in the implementation of a daily schedule, including planning and facilitating Counselor Led Activities; Organizing and supervising children in small groups (“pods”);
Resolving conflicts among children; Daily cleaning of space before and after program; Preparing and providing snack twice a day; Supporting Guest Arts Specialists and participating in their workshop activities however necessary; Planning end of day shares between the Nano and Mega/Giga groups; Communicating with Program Director and Group Leader about management and each week’s specialties;
Compensation: This position will be compensated at a rate of $9.00 - $10.50/hour, depending on experience.
