Share a le from Drive With Google Drive, you can easily share a file with someone, whether or not they have a Google account. When you share a Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms file, the person you share it with always sees the most up-to-date version of the file. You can control whether they just view the file or whether they can edit or comment. Here, we’ll show you how to share a file from Drive, but you can also share Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, or Forms directly from the file.

Share a le with someone who has a Google account With Drive, you can email someone the link to the file directly from Drive, without having to open the file or your Gmail. 1.
Sign in to Drive with your G Suite username and password.

Right-click the file you want to share, and at the top, select Share

In the Share with others pop-up, enter the person’s email address in

the People field. (To add more people, add a comma after the email address and enter another email address.) 4.
By default, the person will have edit permissions. To change this, click the Down arrow
next to the People field, and select Can edit, Can
Comment, or Can View. 5.
(Optional) To explain what the file is or what you’d like the person to do with it, in the Add a note field, enter a message that will be sent to the person.

Click Send. The person gets an email with a link to the file in your Drive. They won’t see anything else in your Drive, just the file you shared with them.
Note: You can also share a file by sending the link to the file in an email. To do this, in Drive, left-click the file you want to share, select Get shareable link and then paste the link in your email. Edit the permissions and click Share & Send.

Choose your sharing options When you share a file, you can choose how the file should be made available and what the person you share it with can do. For example, you can decide that no one outside your company should have access. Or you can choose to share the file publicly and make it available to anyone who has the link. You also decide if you want them to only be able to see the file, comment on it, or make changes to it. 1. In Drive, right-click the file, and select Share. In the Share with others pop-up, click Advanced. 2. Under the Who can edit section, click Change. 3. Choose how you want to share this document: On – Public on the web
Anyone can search on Google and get access to your file, without signing in to their Google Account.
On – Anyone with the link
Anyone who has the link can access your file, without signing in to their Google Account.
On – Your domain
If you use a Google account through work or school, anyone signed in to an account at your work or school can search for and access your file.
On – Anyone at your domain
If you use a Google account through work
with the link
or school, anyone signed in to an account at your work or school can access your file if they have the link.
Off – Specific people
Only people you share the file with will be able to access it.

4. To change whether the person can view only, view and comment, or edit the document, in the Access section, click the Down arrow
and choose
your settings. 5. Click Save and choose an option: ○
If you’ve already entered the name of the person you want to share file with, click Done.

In the Invite people section, enter the name of the person you want to share with and click Send.
Tip: You can set an expiration date to someone’s access to a document you share with
them. Click Share > Advanced, and change the access expiration date. Click Done.
