Student Mentor GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Student Mentor is responsible to meet with first level students and repeating students who are really struggling academically. In this position a Student Mentor would offer motivation, role-modeling, confidence boosting, support and study skills suggestions, and also some tutoring. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •
Contacts a list of students who have been identified by supervisors as at risk and in need of support.
•
Meets with these students on an individual basis.
•
Shares best practices re: study skills.
•
Helps with learning difficult material, to help students access educational resources that are available (e.g., go on the Moodle together to try out the practice quizzes, etc.);
•
Role-models that success is possible despite struggling academically by engaging students in discussion.
•
Tutors on occasion when requested by a student
•
Performs special projects and other school administrative functions as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Comprehensive understanding of programs and school policies.

Effective time management skills.

REQUIREMENTS: •
Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
•
Student must have successfully completed one semester or one quarter at the Swedish Institute at the time of position start date.
•
Student must be enrolled at least half time.
•
Student must meet the Federal eligibility guidelines/requirements in order to participate in FWS program (continuous enrollment is necessary) and be approved by the Swedish Institute Financial Aid Department.
