Cosby High School Parking Decal Registration Checklist The information below is for 11th and 12th grade students, in good standing, who wish to purchase a parking pass for the school year. Please bring the following documents to purchase a Cosby High School parking pass: 1. A completed copy of your current student fee sheet. *All outstanding fees MUST be settled with the CHS bookkeeper prior to pass purchase. 2. A completed Parking Registration Form signed by the student AND the parent/guardian. 3. Proof of registration for cars listed on the Parking Registration Form. 4. Valid driver’s license (NO learner’s permits accepted). 5. $50.00 cash or check made out to Cosby High School

*Seniors with 2 or fewer class periods may purchase a pass for $25 check made out to Cosby High School. (Second semester: Seniors and Juniors: $25.00)

NOTE: Any vehicle registered must belong to the parent/guardian or student. No parking pass will be issued to a student registering a car not owned by their parent/guardian or self.

The Parking Registration Form can be found on the Cosby High School website, in the main office, and at the parking registration table during fee nights.

Cosby High School Student Driver and Vehicle Regulations PARKING Decals will be sold to seniors and juniors in good standing. Seniors and Juniors are eligible to purchase a daily parking pass. Students may only purchase ONE pass. The pass must be hung so the Cosby Emblem faces out with the pass number showing. If no mirror is present, the pass must be placed on the dashboard with the Cosby emblem and pass number showing. (Freshman and sophomores are not allowed to purchase a parking pass or park on school grounds during the instructional day.) Vehicles found in violation of school parking regulations may be towed at owner’s expense. Conduct which may constitute cause for the suspension of parking privileges shall include, but not limited to, the following:  Failing to display the parking decal.  Tardiness to school or excessive absence from class.  Going to the parking lot without administrative approval.  Parking in the faculty parking lot.  Leaving school without permission.  Parking in a no-parking area.  Skipping class/school  Using a false, altered, or illegal parking pass.  Parking in the bus loop at any time.  Picking up or dropping off in an unauthorized area.  Any other action deemed reckless/unsafe by the administration.  Sharing or loaning a Cosby parking pass to another student.

Freshman and sophomores are not allowed to park or purchase a parking pass.  A freshman or sophomore found parking on school grounds will lose the privilege of purchasing a parking pass in their junior year for one term.  A freshman or sophomore found parking on school grounds with a false, altered or illegal parking pass will lose the privilege of purchasing a parking pass in their junior year for one term.  A freshman or sophomore found parking on school grounds will receive a discipline for being in an unauthorized area.

Parking Violations and Penalties Moving violations will result in a suspension of parking privileges. Moving violations are defined as, but not limited to, the following:  Exceeding the posted speed limit on school grounds.  Failure to yield right-of-way to pedestrians.  Failure to follow posted signs (Stop, No Parking, Do Not Enter, etc.).  Any other action deemed reckless by the administration. Non-moving violations may result in a suspension of parking privileges or a designated parking area. Non-moving violations are defined as, but not limited to, the following:  Parking without a properly displayed parking pass.  Parking in non-student areas, i.e. faculty lot, visitor lot, bus loop  Blocking the flow of traffic, i.e. parking on curbs.  Having a part of the vehicle blocking the sidewalk (i.e. back of vehicle extending over walkway, tailgate lowered over walkway, or hitch extending in walkway).  Moving, altering, or disregarding traffic control devices (i.e. cones, and signs) during the school day and at after school athletic events.  Leaving school without permission (per student hand book attendance policy)  Excessive tardiness to school (per student hand book attendance policy)

Consequences for violations: 1st violation: warning of future loss of parking privileges/ 2nd violation: suspension of parking privileges for 5 parking days 3rd violation: suspension of parking privileges for 10 parking days 4th violation: suspension of parking privileges for the remainder of the semester 5th violation: suspension of parking privileges for the remainder of the year YOU NEED TO KNOW STUDENTS VIOLATING SCHOOL BOARD POLICY REGARDING ALCOHOL OR OTHER ILLEGAL OR CONTROLLED DRUGS, REGARDLESS OF THE TIME OR PLACE OF THE VIOLATION, SHALL LOSE THEIR ON-CAMPUS PARKING PRIVILEGES FOR A PERIOD OF AT LEAST 365 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE VIOLATION. ALL PARKING FEES WILL BE FORFEITED. THE STUDENT AND HIS/HER PARENT MUST MEET WITH THE COORDINATOR OF STUDENT CONDUCT AND SHOW EVIDENCE OF REHABILITATION BEFORE APPLYING FOR ANY SUBSEQUENT PARKING PRIVILEGES. COUNTY GUIDELINES: In consideration for the privilege of parking in the parking lot of Cosby High School ("School"), the undersigned student ("Student") and his/her parents or guardians ("Parents") agree to pay an annual fee of $50.00 for a senior or junior (or $25.00 for seniors with 2 or fewer class periods) and abide by the following conditions: 1. The Student promises to obey all laws, policies, rules and regulations, both current and hereafter promulgated, pertaining to the Student's use of motor vehicles on School grounds including, but not limited to, all School rules and regulations pertaining to use of the School parking lot and driving on School grounds as well as the rules and regulations identified in the STANDARDS FOR STUDENT CONDUCT and the Student Handbook. Special school regulations may be attached to this form. 2.

Any violation of any such laws, policies, rules and regulations by the Student, including this agreement, may result in the Student's loss of parking privileges for the remainder of the school year and forfeiture of the annual parking fee.

The School disclaims all responsibility for loss or damage from fire, theft or any other cause to the Student's vehicle or personal property contained therein while the vehicle is located on School property. The School specifically disclaims liability for loss or damage to Student's vehicle or property contained therein resulting from the School's negligence. This agreement provides only for the rental of parking space to the Student by the School and is not intended in any way to create a bailment with respect to the Student's vehicle and the personal property therein.

The Student and registered owners of vehicles listed above agree to maintain, now and in the future, the minimum amount of liability insurance required by Virginia law on the described vehicle(s) at all times when the vehicle is parked on School property.
