INDIO MIDDLE SCHOOL TARDY/ATTENDANCE POLICY Arriving to school on time is vitally important to minimize the loss of instructional minutes and classroom disruptions/distractions. Equally important is being on time to every period throughout the school day. The warning bell to begin the school day rings at 7:55am and the tardy bell rings at 8:00am. The Tiger News (daily announcements) begins promptly at 8:00am.
Students who arrive late to school are to report directly to the office. Teachers may assign detention or other consequences for students who are tardy to their class. Students who are tardy more than 10 minutes to any class are considered TRUANT. All truancies will result in administrative consequences. Students who arrive 30+ minutes late to school without a valid reason will be given lunch detention. Every 3rd T30 will result in administrative action.
Consequences for tardies to school (arriving after the 8:00 am bell):
10 tardies to school = Saturday School assigned. 20 tardies to school = Saturday School assigned, 30 days on the exclusion list and an excessive tardy letter will be mailed home via certified mail. 30 tardies to school = A one day suspension from school, 30 days on the exclusion list and a parent/student meeting will be scheduled with the assistant principal and/or your child’s counselor. *Chronic tardiness (30+ tardies) will result in one of the following: a SART attendance meeting at the school or a referral to the School Attendance & Review Board (S.A.R.B.) at the office of Child Welfare & Attendance (CWA).
Random tardy sweeps will be conducted throughout the year. Students collected in a tardy sweep will result in administrative action taken.
Consequences for unexcused absences: s = Saturday School assigned + first truancy letter 6 unexcused absences = Saturday School assigned + second truancy letter (SART Meeting) 9+ unexcused absences = Saturday School assigned + SARB Referral (CWA)
