The Witness—Part 1

April 12/13, 2014 Luke 19:29-44

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Jesus knew that the applause of the crowd would infuriate the Jewish leaders, making them desperate to kill Him. He willingly entered that environment anyway (Matthew 26:4-5).

11) If God grieves over the lost, know that the opposite is true for those who walk in the way of righteousness (Zephaniah 3:17). GREEK WORDS Hosanna (ho-san-nah')—[Yasha` and na']; oh save! [Save us NOW]

2) 19:36 Spreading clothes on the path was an act reserved for royalty. It indicated submission. 3) 19:37-38 In the mind of the people, the arrival of Jesus was an announcement that He was ready for action. But it was not the action the people wanted. 4) The disciples came with death on their minds (John 11:16). What a shock to see the entire nation welcoming Jesus with open arms. 5) 19:40 Jesus’ followers were destined to give witness to their allegiance. If they were to withhold it, they would have been disloyal to who Jesus is. 6) 19:40 Why would the rocks scream? Because everything in Heaven and on Earth was created for Him and by Him and to Him. The universe exists for the praise of Jesus Christ. 7) 19:40 Your God can cause stones on the ground or stony hearts to praise Him! 8) 19:41 Jesus’ tears were tears of grief over the looming misery of Jerusalem. 9) 19:41 Far from being elated by the celebration, Jesus was grieved by the superficial attitude of the people. He knew many who were cheering Him would cry for His death. 10) 19:42-44 It is evident that the people grasped His power, but Jesus did not fulfill their desires. Frustrated, they went looking for a new “Jesus.”
