FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 1:13 Not one in the room thought himself great or significant. Rather, the weight of responsibility rested on them to do what others would not/could not do. 2) 1:14 Amazing unity bound them together in Jesus. No one was arguing over who was the greatest anymore. 3) 1:15 In a country of approximately 4 million people, 120 believers were an extreme minority; yet they turned their world upside down.

11) 1:12-22 To be qualified, the new leader had to meet two qualifications:  Experienced Jesus’ life from baptism to the ascension  Witnessed the resurrection 12) 1:24-26 After praying, they drew lots, an accepted Old Testament method for determining God’s will (Proverbs 16:33). Acts is not the account of God choosing the best, most talented, most godly people on the face of the earth, so that He can accomplish the expansion of the Kingdom. It is the record of how Jesus is accomplishing His work by using weak, fallible people.

4) 1:14-15 Within the context of prayer, God gave Peter clarity; his thoughts led him to the Scriptures. 5) 1:16 God’s Word is always accomplished…even the hard, ugly things. 6) 1:16-20 Peter used Scripture to assure everyone that Judas’s desertion and his subsequent replacement were all part of God’s bigger plan. 7) 1:17 Judas was counted among the apostles, but he never chose to put his confidence and trust in Jesus (John 6:64). 8) 1:18 Judas never had relationship, and therefore could not put the possibility of restoration and forgiveness in his mind. 9) 1:20 The Psalms affirm two principles in this situation:  There is a judgment on those who reject Jesus (Psalm 69:25).  The “office” was not just anyone’s responsibility; it demanded someone specific (Psalm 109:8). 10) 1:21 Why did they feel it necessary to replace Judas? Having twelve apostles in the early church sprang largely from the need for Jewish Christians ministering within the Jewish nation to maintain this symbolic number.
